The Ford Escort was never made with a zetec engine.
A 96 Escort could have either a standard 1.6 engine or a fuel injected 1.6 lump. Both units give an average mpg of 35.

There must have been a lot of retro-fit conversions around here then.
All MkIV 1.6 and 1.8 Escorts from 93-on are Zetecs. The 2.0 was too; with a few notable exceptions. Only the 1.3 and 1.4 were Valencia and CVH units.

have a look in parkers technical data. I think it was somewhere around mid-thirties when it lef t the factory...
