i recently had to charge the battery up on my motor cause swmbo left the side lights on all night , whilst on charge i decided to clean it up and top up the electrolyte , whilst doing so it revealed the manufacture date on the casing 1990 , and i thought they only lasted 3 or 4 years can any one beat that?
|
Yeah, the date on mine says 55 BC, I got it off E-Bay, apparently Julius Caesar had it an Allegro and it never gave him any grief!
Any one beat that?

mammoth apparently why?
|
I just thought that the name of a battery that had lasted 16 years instead of 4 might be interesting re buying one as a replacement in 2007, if the make still exists!

ive fitted a 1989 battery today that was declared scrap by its previous owner , just gave it a nice long low charge , i didnt realise it was that old until i came to fit it, otherwise i wouldnt have bothered !
ive found over the years that the best way to extend the life of a battery is to occasionally give it some work. i.e. run it low , charge it up [steadily] make it work.
and never place on a cold floor , always on a piece of wood or polystyrene .

Indeed, trickle charging a dead battery will do it the world of good, i'd recommend about 200mA maximum until full. Especially when re-charging a battery which has been sat idle for some time.
