PEUGEOT 306 PROBLEMS - Mike
I have a 98 306D. Over the last few weeks I have had the following problems. The horn is not working properly, emits a feeble squeak. The water washers have stopped working and the radio only works on the stalk which means I can search through for channels and change volume. I would like to have a look at the parts before going to a garage but nothing seems accessible. Is this intentional or can anyone advise please?
Re: PEUGEOT 306 PROBLEMS - JohnD
Hi Mike - These symptoms, at least of the first two, point to some corrosion in the electrical connectors. Recently, the washers on my daughters Pug205D stopped working. After the two connectors at the pump in the base of the reservoir were cleaned, the jets were restored. Also clean up the terminals on the horn.

Typical french electrics, I'm afraid.

Sorry DJW

Hi John D and Dr Dave. thank you but I cannot see how to access the reservoir and horn short of drilling out the rivets and taking off the inner wheel arche and front bumper grill.
Re: PEUGEOT 306 PROBLEMS - Dave N
Mike, that's what you'll have to do. We all want cars with more gubbins, and smaller engine bays to give more passenger space, and this is the price we pay I'm afraid.

Like the 306 bottom radiator hose connection.

Likewise the 405 bottom rad hose with the bayonet fitting. You need fingers like ET, with the strength of Charles Atlas (remember him).

Your dad being the driving instructor?
Re: PEUGEOT 306 PROBLEMS - JohnD
Hi Mike - You're right, to get to the reservoir you need to jack up, remove the righthand wheel, take out the screws and clips to release the wheelarch liner. The reservoir is behind the liner. Likewise with the horn. You'll have to jackup, remove some screws and also drill out some rivets holding the mud shield to the bumper. With the mudshield off, you can reach the horn. All the best!

With regards to the radio we had the same fault. I purchased a new radio and fitted it.

When I traded the car in I refitted the old radio and ta-da it worked! I noticed in the paperwork for the new radio I fitted it recommended unplugging the radio and leaving for 3 mins then reconnecting the power if it had a fault.

I suppose this is what I did with the orginal, though I left it unplugged for 3 months! As long as you have the radio code its worth a shot.

Hope you have some success,

Dave
Re: PEUGEOT 306 PROBLEMS - Mike
Thank you Dave. it was a bit of a gamble disconnecting the battery as without the radio display I might not have been able to put the code back in. Unfortunatley it didn't work and there is no power to the radio at all now.

What a triumph of French design that was, eh? Ridiculous. Full stop.
