Hi all,

Going over to Liverpool this Monday night to watch Newcastle play Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup semi final, second leg (we're 4-2 down from first leg).

I've not been to Anfield before, and looking at their website, I can't really see where I can park the car, it looks to be residents only around the ground.

So, does anyone know where I can/should park the car? Don't want to find a ticket on it or bricks where once there were wheels!!

tia,
Lee.

A motoring related thread in a motoring forum in the loosest possible way.

Can't we put an end to these 'virtually' nothing to do with motoring posts?

A car on bricks in Liverpool? A stereotypical and ignorant view that's quite offensive to some.

A car on bricks in Liverpool? A stereotypical and ignorant view (BUT TRUE) that's quite offensive to some.
Why waste your time with a useless reply, just grunt and shake youre head like the rest of us.
If wanting to know where to park a CAR isnt a motoring related question what is it.

A car on bricks in Liverpool

Well this seems to be an example of how NOT to get an answer to your question, You have just insulted the people who will know good places to park.

What happened to the wonderful scouse sense of humour?

Citroenian, you should have posted that you were going to a funeral near Anfield and needed somewhere to park. They'd be replying in droves.

We're all a bit touchy this morning aren't we?

As a Liverpool supporter I can confirm that there is an old story about the visiting supporter who as he parks his car is approached a couple of kids who say "A quid to look after your car mate"
"No need my dog's inside to guard it"
"Puts out fires, does he?"

On big match days I drive in via Old Swan, and park about a mile short of the ground by a big park opp some blocks of flats, having done a U-turn so my car is facing the right way for the get-away. A satellite image search will tell you where this is.

For a youth match I'd imagine you can a bit nearer, but just use your nouse and trade off between a longer walk and a quicker getaway.

And if you DO get a kid asking for "A quid to watch your car", then by all means offer them two quid if it's OK when you get back.

Yes, once again the famous and self-revered Scouse sense of humour fails just at the moment it's tested.

To be fair, if the OP does park in the wrong place then there is a fair chance that his car may not be in perfect condition when he gets back - have some of you lot seen some of the streets around Anfield?

The previous post is spot on. If you do get a kid offering to watch your car for a quid, then agree, but say you'll pay when you get back. 100% cast iron guarantee that when you get back, this kid will be there waiting for his money and your car will be a-okay. I've even had mine washed by the local enterprising scallies near Goodison whilst watching the mighty Blues.....

You can park at Goodison Park for a reasonable charge and walk the short distance to Anfield. Also easier to get away quicker in the rush after the game (though not too likely in this case).

Apparently you can also park at Anfield Primary School (near Stanley Park) and this is regarded as very safe.

Just for interest, I've been visiting Fazackerley hospital for several weeks and have been parking my Bora on one of the roads opposite the hospital; whether it was during the day or evening it has never been touched or damaged in any way.

PS

In his autobiography, Kevin Keegan wrote that whilst at a party in Liverpool his car was stolen despite being in the middle of a row of parked cars.

He later found out that the reason his was "chosen" was because, compared to the others, his had nearly a full tank of petrol....:-)

The area round Anfield was evacuated during one game last season when worried residents called police to report a suspicious device attached to a car. The bomb squad were called in and the area was sealed off before the suspect device which had alarmed residents was found to be a tax disc.

Someone once told me that Liverpudlians were the Irish who came over on the boat and were too thick to catch the train.

I do not agree with the above statement.

I got my car seriously scratched at Goodison in 1967, it was a Vauxhall Viva, so no damage there.

The last time I went to Liverpool the Rams won.

Clearly the OP idealises scousers. What on earth makes him think they would go to the trouble of standing his car on bricks?

calm down, calm down. What brought that on? If you've got a complaint, I'd suggest you raise it with the moderators off forum rather than trying to provoke a reaction on it.

Without local knowledge one could find themselves parking somewhere iffy in any town. It can't be off topic to try and find out where to park in a given city.

Sheesh. {moves onto less troll-like replies}

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

I'll take a look at the Anfield Primary School and Fazackerley Hospital (or Goodison for that matter), thanks to all those who suggested, especially Stuartli.

I didn't mean park near Fazackerley hospital - I was merely pointing out that it had proved perfectly OK to park nearby whilst I was visiting...:-)

Fazakerly Hospital is a very long walk to Anfield.

I presume you will be coming via the M6, In which case you could follow signs for Liverpool and St Helens on the A580.
Continue along the A580 toward Liverpool city centre. You will arrive at the ring road - Queen's Drive - continue across the traffic lights at this junction. The road goes under a railway bridge with Walton lane Police Station just past it on the left. Anfield Cemetery is now on your left. At the next T junction with Stanley Park opposite, turn left. (You will see Goodison Park - Everton's ground - on the right.) You can usually park on this road. The Vernon Sangster Sports Centre is further along on the right hand side. It's actually in Stanley Park.
