Astra clutch trouble - bayley84
Hey, having few problems with the clutch on 1.6 8v. Since ive had it, the gearbox has always been notchy and as far as im aware this is just how it is - i know the clutch needs replacing by the end of the summer, it judders on a morning and just doesnt drive well when changing gear. 1st is always hit and miss and often feels though that is has two biting points, when youve hit the first one, the car starts to pull, but at the very last minute a second one comes along jerking you forward... over the last few days its suddenly been getting difficult to get in gear...any gear... feels 'obstructed'. No crunching noise, just a pain in the backside. Any ideas? would a new clutch sort this, and as a temp fix would chaning the gearbox oil make any difference? cheers!!

Sounds like the clutch release mechanism is failing in some way. I would put a new clutch in and check out the release components very very carefully.

hi i started in the trade years ago and one of the first cars that i had to do was a Astra with the same sort of problem. sounds like you have a warped clutch plate and its not giving the clearence that it needs to get the gears properly. i would give it a new clutch plate and pressure plate and gear box oil change and see how you get on

I had the same problem with my 1996 Astra 1.6 8V. Clutch judder started at c30k and gradually deteriorated to the extent that 2nd gear became hard to select which was easily fixed in the end (gearbox linkages ). But judder continued until at 80k it became unbearable so fitted a new clutch (£350 from dealer). Dealer said original clutch was warped but I managed to get 6 years out of it and no problem with new one now at 140k.

had the same problem due to a juddering clutch with my corsa sxi..eventually the dealer agreed to replace the clutch, and the problem has now gone, however the gear change still remains deplorable to say the least, havn't tried new gearbox oil yet,but I guess it might be the gear linkage, although garage claims its ok..

HI the gear linkage can be a pain to get right some times. in some cases if it has not been marked up before strip down, it is a trip up the road and back for small adjustments. hope this helps

would changing to synthetic oil help..or does it already exist in vauxhalls? Bob can you explain how to adjust the gear linkage?
Astra clutch trouble - Big Bad Bob
HI it should be ok on the standerd gear oil made for that car. you just have to check witch one its on. i could tell you how to adjust the linkage. but it would be best to take to a good tec then he can sort it out. then he can do the fine ajusting sorry hope this helps
