SWMBO brother has left the country, but he has left behind a Triumph Spitfire (1300 with O/D I believe) in a lockup. He was in the process of restoring it before jetting off for pastures new. I am lead to believe that it is in pieces rather then complete and running, although the engine and gearbox are runners and the panels are all done!!!! The FIL and I are going to have a look at it in a couple of weeks time, but I am really after ideas of how to dispose of it. Will it be best advertised in classic car or such, or would ebay be better - or is there no real market for them and as such we would be better just to scrap it?

Ideas please.

I had thought of that - but then I also thought of the list of things SWMBO has for me to do - So to be able to anything on the car I would first have to lay the decking in the garden, then redo the bathroom and then redo our bedroom. So all in all it is not really a good idea in my books!!!!!!

Roll it out, take loads of pictures, put it on Ebay with a sensible start price and no reserve, and point people to the Ebay listing from the relevant enthusiasts' forums.

I agree - ebay is great for this sort of thing. Give an accurate description and state that it needs to be trailered away and someone will buy it, and quite often you'll get more for stuff than you think.

Likewise - ebay works very well for things like this. Little brother got rid of an MGB that was in a bit of a state, but the oldest one still 'on the road' - buyer travelled a huge distance to trailer it away.

The car is in deepest darkest Devon - I haven't actually seen it yet, but the guy is a salesman now turned estate agent so I take everything he says with a pinch of salt!!!

Which bit? Deepest darkest Devon, its a car, or its a Triumph Spitfire?

As an aside, I took my driving test in a Spitfire. I can still remember the examiners face when he found out which car he was conducting the test in. The three point turn was a joke as the car could have done a U-turn in the road he chose.

Think it will have to be an ebay sale, if we get anything for it I think we will be lucky!!!! Could end up costing us to get rid of it...........Don't you just love family!!!

fasten the door with a chain and padlock, turn your back for 30mins, and some low-life will have taken the bolt-cutters to it and cleaned you out!.

A decent shell is still worth money, even if you can't demonstrate the engine and gearbox. Take it out on a fine day and take pics - if possible put it on one side and show the underneath.

I can't believe it's worth less than £250.

I agree, get everything out, line it up neatly, make a good list and take some pics. You'll get more than you think on eBay. See if you can find any receipts etc. for parts and any work already done.

Looks as if there's some good stuff there. Ebay it in individual lots if need be, to maximise £received, but perhaps you would be doing someone a favour if you contacted the owner's club - try that.

And do read a few Ebay listings - so many are total shockers. Just state the facts, use a spell checker, take decent pictures that show the item/part in good close-up and well-lit and you'll be amazed.

Location may be slightly against you as from memory it's in darkest Devon? Consider hiring a trailer to fetch it all up, as that will then save you a journey when it sells.

I think you might be underselling what you have got there, I reckon it would be worth your while worth getting someone who knows about spitfires to have a look - maybe post the pics on club messagebooard. It looks like theres a totally rust free - and possibly even new - chassis on the right, if it's a new galvanised one I wouldn't be surprised if it's worth over £500

Plus the bodyshell looks rust free.

Assuming the engine gearbox are in good nick I can't believe that someone wouldn't want to take it off your hands whether it be for spares or to complete the build.
