Signum - good choice ? - Oldsinjun

I am a great believer in buying a good spec "old model" prob c. 2+ years old when most (no - not all) of the initial depreciation has been taken taken by the previous owner(s).

I have been considering a Signum automatic with Elite spec. and would appreciate any comments and experiences of this model from others on the Forum.

The Signum has never had rave reviews and not liked by motoring journalists but to me it appears a very practical motor with a great spec. and good reliability which can be had for reasonable money. For instance this was on ebay but remained unsold - I think:

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&ss...1

Should I avoid the larger engine and go for the 1.9 diesel ? Is there anything that I should look out for ? I am really not concerned with 0-60 figs and have low annual mileage so mpg is no big deal but dont want to throw money away unnecessarily.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I remember when it was launched, nobody knew what the point of it was BUT in Northants atleast, I see loads of them around, so there must be something that people like. Motoring journos are just indviduals with opinions and may not share the same priorities as yourself. Why not drive a few and see if it grows on you?

A mate of mine has one as a company car (with the 150 bhp 1.9 CDTi engine) and he absolutely loves it. I've only been in it as a passenger, but it goes well, is refined and very comfortable. The styling is a matter of personal preference, but I rather like it.

Cheers

www.vectra-c.co.uk/ works too though!

Thinking about one once the Astra gives up the ghost. But Mrs B wants an Octy vRS. We will see.

I took the same philosphy as you and bought an 18 month old top sec Signum in 2005, It was a 53 plate, 2.2DTI automatic.

I loved the car, drove beautifully, except at very slow town speeds when it was a bit choppy.

I found the interior design to be spot on for carrying loads and occasional adult passengers would woul want loads of space, really more useful than a Vectra IMHO (unless you want to carry 5, but we have an MPV as our other car).

Our Galaxy on the other hand sold in 3 hours after putting it on Autotrader, a year later.. theres a lesson there somewhere.

Shocking shocking depreciation in only 7 months, NEVER AGAIN!

I'm suprised the signum never sold in greater quantities because I like the idea of it as a bit of a crossover type car. I'm sure if it had a german premium badge (not opel) it would sell in greater numbers.
