Well... where do I start!
Bought an A3 2.0 tdi from audi main dealer 1 last week, he took my golf for £7500 and I left a £6k deposit. I signed paperwork and when I came to pick it up a few days later the car was in an appaling state- FULL of stonechips and scratches. I immediately said I could not accept this- the manager came out and apologised saying that the car should never have reached the forecourt in that state. They then were quite pushy and sold me a 1.9 TDI, great bodywork i test drove it and thought i could deal with it. However, speaking to my father in law on the sunday, he said that frequent trips to France in a 1.9 tdi would be stupid if I had enough to buy a 2.0 tdi. Had a think about it, and he was right, so i phoned the audi dealer 1, apologised, and said it definately was a 2.0 tdi i was after.
I then found a 2.0 tdi 30 miles away at audi main dealer 2, and when i got there the salesman told me that audi main dealer 1 wasn't part of the same group, so i would need my money back. Thought this was unbelievable, he more or less asked me to lie to audi main dealer 1saying i'd found another car and wanted my money back.
The Audi dealer 1 sussed out i was lying, and then i told him that i more or less had to lie to him as i wanted this other audi from main dealer 2. They then had an hours conversation and then the main dealer 2 guys told me "its yours, they bought it for you". Ring them tommorow morning to sign the paperwork.
I did do just that, but later on found out by reading the receipt that it was a sport version, which has a much stiffer ride. Because they'd argued for so long on the phone I hadn't even been offered a test drive so how would I have known about the fact that it was a sport version. No one told me, and my partner did not pick up on this either. We have now found a 56 plate SE version (costing £3k more) that we both think is perfect but audi dealer 1 is refusing to let me change again, even though I am prepared to pay full price today and the car is within their group. I know i changed my mind on the 1.9 but on the two other occasions it was their fault. Where do I stand?

Theres a rule when buying just about anything - check what your buying before you sign and with a large purchase, dont rush. It sounds like such a mess, you must look like a right pain in the ass to the dealers.

I do not think it was there fault appart from the stone chipped first car but you surely looked at it before you said you would have it,they did not force you to say yes to anything. What happens when the latest find has the wrong colour carpets after you have taken it do you take it back again the fact you were not offered a test drive is because you did not ask they cannot read your mind.I would have thought before you took on such a huge purchase you did a little home work as to what you actually wanted.

Sounds like you are making hard work of this!
it would appear that you have entered into a binding legal agreement by signing the paperwork. I can see why they dont want to allow you to change - firstly they think you are messing them about, secondly they have bought the car from the other dealer, so i assume they have split the profit margin somehow. They dont want this on their forecourt any longer than possible.
With the sport version - you state it was printed on the receipt. So no-one has decieved you.
the only way they would upgrade you is using goodwill, which i dont think they will have very much off.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but sounds like you are stuck. the best thing to have done was to refuse the first car and cite breach of contract and got the deposit back.

If Audi dealer 1 is prepared to sort out the issues with car 1 what's the problem? My Audi was scracthed by a careless in house valeter. One day in the body shop and the car came back pristine.

You sound like a right mug Sony! More money than sense and brains...
If you believe the 'Sport' version is going to have an intolerably harsh ride, to such an extent that you would happily part with £3k more to get an SE version...well it doesn't seem money is an issue. I'd just try and PX the Sport version immediately or sell privately.
You could ask for some good will, but sounds like you used that all up already
|
From my A3 buying days SE and Sport were about the same price.
I only assume the SE was a newer car - which incidentally is now fitted with the same 17 inch wheels as fitted to the Sport. Bit of a shame really as the slightly narrower 16 inch wheels give a really good ride and don't tramline. From anecdotal evidence tyres on 16 inch wheels last longer too.

Two things amaze me:
1) the thought that trips to france in a 1.9 rather than a 2L would be 'stupid'. (Many people prefer the 1.9 engine, it's not as harsh).
2) £6000 deposit!!!!! I was miffed at having to leave £500.

after a quick refresher look through this post

I think you should accept that you are fated to never have a good experience with buying cars. I would hope the dealer doesnt notice the problems with the car you are offering - because it certainly wont help with goodwill.
Maybe you and alappy should get together ?

Couldn't agree more!
You must learn to let your head, not your heart, be in control when buying cars!!

You are ALL right. I cannot disagree. I cannot explain why this has happened. I genuinely don't mean for this to happen obviously. maybe i should stop driving.
|
But to be fair- reading what I put is a different matter to what really happened. The ins and outs of it were partly the main dealers fault. Next time i shall just buy new, it'll solve a LOT of problems!

Frankly none of this makes sense.
Are you saying the car didn't have the scratches/chips only a week ago, or are you saying that you didn't look very closely at it before signing the paperwork ?
Secondly, assuming you are rejecting the car now you are in a weak position unless you can prove the car has picked up these marks in just one week.
Thirdly there isn't a huge difference between the 2 litre and the 1.9 TDi that would have any sort of impact on your journeys. Another Audi main dealer would probably have no business connection with the one you dealt with as they are all frachises, so you would have no real right to expect them to collaboratively rectify your problem.
I dont often side with dealers, but on this occasion I think this is a case of self inflicted injury and you'll be lucky if the dealer is benevolent enough to provide a resolution for you.
|
You do to a certain extent appear to have been the author of your own misfortune. Agreeing to buy a 2.0 TDi without knowing the specification is a bit daft, but if you haven't driven it, how do you know the ride will be intolerable?
I would take the 2.0 over a 1.9 - heavy cars with 105BHP are never fun. If it's like the other VAG cars I've driven the 2.0 will have the benefit of a 6 speed gearbox too which will improve refinement on the motorway.

The 1.9tdi comes in many power outputs ! - 105, 130, 150 or there abouts.
The dealer has been rather good actually, you should really stop impulse buying !

It used to, but in the current A3 you can only have a 1.9TDI 105 or a 2.0TDI 140 or 170.
|
Matter resolved people. I cannot believe this- the dealer has agreed for me to purchase the 2.0 TDI 56 plate- the car i wanted all along. I have agreed to pay full price for it- it's the least I could do. Many thanks
