The time has come to change my car. Have a budget of around £7000-£7500. New car must be as new as possible, cheap (ish) to run and reliable.

Currently looking at new shape 05 reg focus which are just in budget, any other suggestions would be welcome.

Regards
Dave

Foci are very good cars, so why not spend time looking for the best example you can get rather than looking at different makes?

You may however find that newer Mondeos are available for the same money....

Not sure if it would be acceptable to you, but we'll be picking up a brand new Mitsubishi Colt CZ1 5dr with a/c in solid red on Thursday and that cost £7500.

I've just suggested a Skoda Fabia to someone on another thread; maybew I can do the same for you. As good as, though probably not better than, a Focus - but the point is that you should get a newer car for your money. Go for the 1.4 100 bhp or the 1.9 TDI (not the SDI which is a cure for insomnia)..

I meant to add - if you're happy with a small car, BP's Colt is well worth a look. I had one as a courtesy car from a bodyshop last month, and liked it a lot.

The 1.1 is a 3-cylinder engine - it's quite noisy but it's a pleasant noise that you can live with, unlike a certain German taxi of my acquaintance.
