Skid pan training days? - pmh
Has anybody good or bad experiences of these? To be given as a present to an enthusiastic 60 year old!

To embody a fun element as well as instructional! A quick google lists 282,000 sites so there must be some to be avoided.

Preferably Home counties North, but possibly willing to travel as far as Silverstone.

If you can as far as Lincoln, Lincolnshire Police do a good short course. Take a look at their website.

Just to resurrect this thread. I am looking for personal experiences and recommendations.

The date approaches when I have got to give the present!

I was bought a Silverstone Driving Skills day as a Birthday present - skid pan, high speed braking/ avoidance etc. etc., Was both great fun and good learning. Would recommend it.

Lincolnshire Police used to do free skid pan training for newly qualified drivers & young drivers, I think under 21s? I don't know if they still do.
My son attended a session, it was a 1 to 1 with a police instructor in 2 cars, a rear wheel drive & a front wheel drive, he spent about 20 minutes driving each car, thoroughly enjoyed it & learned a lot.
A good link is the Lincolnshire Road safety Partnership website.

I've done the same course with Lincolnshire Police and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Shame - "You must be a full licence holder and resident of Lincolnshire".

it doesn't really fit the bill as it's in Lincolnshire (what is it with Lincolnshire and skid training?) but I did skid training at Manby and I'd thoroughly recommend it. Make sure the instructor is Rospa certified and it's training not "yee hah!" and look for a skid cradle under a rear wheel drive car. Apparently that's important. He'll be scared stiff and really enjoy himslef.

I treated SWMBO to a day at John Watson skid course at Silverstone in 80's - I loved it she hated it. - i did learn that once a car goes you are just a passenger holding on for grim death
