If you can as far as Lincoln, Lincolnshire Police do a good short course. Take a look at their website.

Essex police have it as part of their road safety course.Try your local police.

Just to resurrect this thread. I am looking for personal experiences and recommendations.
The date approaches when I have got to give the present!

I was bought a Silverstone Driving Skills day as a Birthday present - skid pan, high speed braking/ avoidance etc. etc., Was both great fun and good learning. Would recommend it.

Lincolnshire Police used to do free skid pan training for newly qualified drivers & young drivers, I think under 21s? I don't know if they still do.
My son attended a session, it was a 1 to 1 with a police instructor in 2 cars, a rear wheel drive & a front wheel drive, he spent about 20 minutes driving each car, thoroughly enjoyed it & learned a lot.
A good link is the Lincolnshire Road safety Partnership website.

I've done the same course with Lincolnshire Police and thoroughly enjoyed it.
