After owning an R 98 306 TD estate for 51K over 32 months without a murmer, i decided to change to another. This time an X 00 306 HDI Meridian in lush moonstone blue. BAD MOVE. I really like the estate and thought i could get around 3 years trouble free motoring from it. With only 18K showing, its been in the workshop 4 times. To get its rain sensitive wipers put right, twice,(one visit gained a new wiper motor),and twice for brakes judder. I first visited with the juddering brakes at 6K when i had just bought the car. Everything seemed fine until last week with a blast up to Scotland from Ripon. Yes the judder was back! Today, my Pug dealer has raplaced the front discs as they where too thin,(under warrenty) but wants £130 plus vat to do the rear discs. Normally they would have done the job but Pug only last month said discs under 8mm thickness where excluded from warrenty. Mine are 7mm thick!!! What a pile of junk! A true throwaway car. Now my dealer tells me to phone Pug customer care. Cheers, they are not back in the office till monday! I have just worked a load of 12 hour shifts(driving my oil tanker) and do not have time to listen to greensleves on the phone. Is this the time to throw in the towel and buy an older jag, merc, lexus, bmw, audi. Why spend over 12K on a sensible little car if it cannot behave itself?

Do it, bargain barges are the best value for money around. Choose right and you can waft around and still see 30mpg.

And had nothing but trouble with it. He went through 2 wiper motors, fuel pumps and goodness other things wrong with it.
Move it on is my advice!

There certainly do seem to be a lot of these run-out Meridians around, with a tempting spec and price too. I didn't realise they were all meant to be lemons.

"discs under 8mm thickness were excluded from warrenty"
Does it actually say that, or are they making the rules up as they go along? If your car is unsafe as a result of its design, I should have thought you would have a good case. Everything you buy has to be 'of merchantable quality'.

Unfortunately discs and pads are both formulated so that both wear. This ensures that new customers are not back at dealers complaining of excess pad wear rates. OEMs don't really care if subsequent owners have to change the discs.
Try changing to EBC Kevlar or Green Stuff pads. These give off less dust and are kind to discs. I have GS on the front and Ks on the rear of my 97 Rover 800 Vitesse Sport. They have great bite from cold and superb progression as speed is shed. Oh, my car has 112k on the clock and is on its original discs still! Call JRT Autos on 01494 792211 and say someone from the Rover Owners Club sent you.
Brake judder is often due to discs that are warped from overheating. It might be that the disc design is prone to warp. If it happens again change to some higher quality aftermarket discs. Check out demon-tweeks.co.uk or larkspeed.co.uk or one of the peugeot motorsport specialists for advice.

Thanks for your replies,i went down to my Pug dealer this a.m. and told them i was very unhappy. Iasked why did the exhaust on my old 740 GLE last 131K, but only get 18K from Pug discs? They where stumped for an answer! Pug customer services to be contacted on monday by the dealer.

Too thin @ 18K huh?
Sounds like you have problems there if the discs are knackered at 18K in a small car such as the 306.
You heavy on the brakes? Being a professional truck driver I doubt it.
