Hi,
I've had this car for almost 2 years. Its a 1994 polo, 1 litre. When I first bought the car, it had a simliar problem which got fixed after changing the distributor. Although the problem seems identical it also does different things. I don't know if its the cold January/Febuary weather because it was the same time last year it had the problem.
It happens every now and then, the revs will drop up and down then it will cut out / or nothing out of the ordinary will happen and it will still just cut out. It seems if i sit there for about 20 minutes it may start again.
However the difference to the problem before is that sometimes it might not start at all, and it needs a jump start, and when it ticks over the battery sounds like its going to die. Although I haven't had the last part of the problem for a little while ( I did change the alternator as the break down man told me too) Maybe i'm having different probs at the same time!!
I've heard that polo's and some other VW's are prone to this kind of problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions, I've changed the spark plugs, alternator, and battery.
Any help will be very helpful!

hi, ive had simular problems with my 1993 polo. when i slow down and dip the clutch to change gear, the engine cuts out.
has your car got a engine managment unit? if so, try turning the ignition on without turning the engine over. leave it on for 10 seconds this will reset the fuel management because when the battery is disconected it looses its memory and needs to be reset. also check your plugs and leads as they are a common cause for problems with vw engine faults.
good luck!

Rememebr to check the ignition module near the bulkhead. A lot of them will be cracked and allow water to get in.
Worth have a look..
