Hello.
A neighbour of mine had her car repaired last april.
She had a sill replaced.
It has now bubbled with rust again.
How long do you normally get with bodywork repairs in terms of warranty.

Forgot to add it was a ford authorised repair facility.

I have no idea about warrenty on body work repairs but for rust to be coming thorugh already makes it sound like the repair was not very good.
What car is it, what year etc?
|
A sill replaced, anybody else got the feeling the old original rusty sill is still under this new one?

Sure have !

My feeling is that the original rusty sill is the only metal under the new paint.

I would never have any long term faith in a body panel repair that is welded and not simply bolted on.
There is no way the repairer can replicate the in factory process in which the whole car is dipped after assembling. and there will always be a risk of rust in the inaccessable welded areas.

Sure its not a plate over the top of old one, costly job doing full replacement??

Hello.
It is a N registered mk3 3 door.
I think she said that it cost £150.
She is a bit upset about it all.
I have been asked to deal with it for her as it should have lasted longer than ten months.

Well if it was a new sill, it cannot have rusted that quickly.. If you inspect the welds carefully and check the panel versus the one on the other side, you should see if it has been replaced or not.
Even a cheap new sill should last longer and an oversill (a new one on top of the rusty one) should also.
I smell scammed owner.

Hello.
Thankyou for your replies.
I have Telephoned the garage concerned.
They operate a 3 year warranty.
The lady concerned is taking the car in tomorrow should i accompany her so that she is not mis treated.

N reg Fiesta's seem to be cursed on this site :(

Hello.
Is it true to say they were not as well protected from rust as much as the older mk3's

This would explain why there are a lot of G reg's still on the roads where as the N/P plate ones all seem to be rotting to the scrap yard.

Hello
Is there a way of stopping this for example.
Using Dinitrol in every panel etc.
Can something be painted inside the wheel arches etc to stop rust occuring.
My mondeo seems to be well protected though saying that trim is falling off.

Dinitrol may stop rust spreading, only if you make sure it's in every nuck and cranny.
Ford panels certainly used to come with a 6 year warranty according to the literature supplied with my car in 1989. Might be main dealer only though.

Hello
Took the lady to the car bodyworkshop today.
Apparently the sill was not replaced it had the rust removed ?
The paint was stripped to bare metal. The rust was treated and then it was repainted etc.
They have offered to do this again as a goodwill gesture but we were at the assumption that it would happen again in 10 months time.
What are your views on this.
Many thanks for the replies so far.

What did they put on her bill for the previous work???
|
I'm surprised that a decent garage would have offered to do a quick brush up on a rusty panel without letting the owner know how temporary a remedy this is. I'd accept the offer to do it again. This will give the owner a year for the quarter panel around the filler to catch up with the oxidation process.
|
And what guarantee do they put on their workmanship is a good question to ask ?
