VW Golf GT TDI pd (115) - Juddering - Mark
I wrote a while ago regarding 'juddering' on my Golf which is only 18 months old. It was initially happening slightly at high speeds and then got worse.

The outcome was that the garage (a main dealer), found petrol in the tank (allegedly) to be the cause. They said that the pressure of fuel going through to the injectors was too low and although I find it difficult to believe, the petrol caused the seal on the tandem fuel/air pump to deteriorate, resulting in air getting into the system. Cost to replace £519 including labour.

I now have the car back and have 2 other problems 1) At Idle it is very rough to the point of stalling 2) when travelling at low speeds e.g 20 -30mph, when slowing down and driving at these constant speeds the car tends to 'kangaroo'.

Not knowing much about these things, is it possible that this could just be a fine tuning problem?

Thanks in advance

Are you one of those people who buy a VW diesel and think that its a petrol? According to the VW ads you are not in a minority!!
Re: VW Golf GT TDI pd (115) - Juddering - Mark
I am definately NOT one of these people.

You might need to be in a lower gear. But there was also an ECU/flywheel sensor problem. See car by car breakdown.

The garage has obviously not sorted the problem .But before you take it back try thrashing the engine on a good 30 mile run to see if this sorts it , i presume the diesel tank was flushed out?
But unless you have for sure put petrol in by error i would be very sceptical of their contamination claims , apparently other manufactures are using this as a means of passing on warranty costs , i would ask for a independent test to be carried out on the fuel before paying up.

I did ask for the parts however they told me they were exchange parts and therefore they had to send them back!

They did mention that even if it was under warrenty it wouldn't be covered.
It did cross my mind that they were trying to pull the wool over my eyes!

Presumably you are talking 2nd gear?
Re: VW Golf GT TDI pd (115) - Juddering - Todd
Did you pay £519 yourself or was it under warranty?
First of all, petrol in the tank sounds like garbage. Petrol simply won't have that effect on seals, unless you've done about 20k miles on 30% petrol. Diesel isn't that different to petrol. What is a tandem fuel/air pump? The pd engine has unit injectors which is what pd (pump duse) means!! So there's 4 fuel pumps. The air pump is the turbo!!! Sounds like they've put redex in the car and charged £519.
With regard the idle, don't let them sell you a new ecu. They can change the idle speed through the obd2 port, so that should be free.
With regard the kangarooing when slowing at 20-30 mph, what gear are you in when this happens? That could be ecu or flywheel related. Just an idea, but you could get the car chipped. Some companies have X days money back guarantee. If it solves the problem, then great, otherwise get the money back. If the shuddering/juddering is worse, it's likely driveline problem.

Don't know if this is of any use, but go to www.tdiclub.com and do a search on 'anti shudder valve'. Some people have complained of shuddering on the 90bhp Golf/Bora etc as sold in the US. Might be worth a quick look........

I forgot to mention that you need to go to the 'forum' section and you may need to register. A search can take about 5 mins. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people who visit and contribute to www.tdiclub.com so it could well be worth a look.
