Oct 06 '56' New Megane Sport 225, 5 dr, Mercury with grey leather, 5000 miles > £16995

Jan 04 '53' Megane 1.5 dCi 100bhp Dynamique, 5 dr, ink blue, 25000 miles, FRSH with extra oil change every 9000. Full MoT. Almost showroom condition (after a valet), one small graze on an alloy wheel > ????

How much should be my 'price to change'?

Thanks

£6k for yours in px value against the Sport you might end up circa £10k to change. Is the Sport a private owner or is it a dealer demo?

£6.5k for yours privately and £19k in March gets a new one, new plate from Drive The Deal. If it is a demo then I'd rather pay the extra £2k (or a bit less if I could) on a performance car like that for the peace of mind that it hasn't been thrashed 100 times on test drives just privately owned from new and probably cared for.

No more excuses for being late if you do go ahead!

Xileno, saw an advert up here for the 225 and sure it was a lot less than that. Will try and find it

It's a demo car at the Renault garage I use. I thought that might be a bonus since any test drive will have been accompanied by the salesperson.

The salesman might have had WRC ambitions and so might the customers who had it "for the weekend"

Xileno, Arnold Clark up here were advertising these during the week in the paper but I can't see them on their website. They were definitely at a cheaper price that what you are paying though unsure as to year, mileage etc!

Sorry, I did try!

Thanks for looking. I would rather buy locally from the dealer I know and trust. I think I will ask the dealer for two prices, one a 'price to change' and the other a straight cash purchase and keep the dCi. SWMBO can have it.

Their price seems a bit high compared to Parkers, I think I shall have to ask them to sharpen their pencil a bit.

I have reluctantly dismissed a Subaru as there's no dealer anywhere near us. I am quite interested in a Golf R32 but this 225 has come up first and it's a comparitively rare 5 door model which I prefer.

Advert says it has a speed limiter. :-)

Xileno, there's a Subaru dealer in Vale Lane in Bristol. Given you'll only need to go there once in a blue moon, you'd surely prefer one to a Golf!

Why change the Megane at all - it'll keep on for10 more years - then you can get a better Subaru!

I've decided to go for a safer option and look for a nice 2.0 VVT Megane. I think the 225 will cause me too much grief, always wondering if someone's going to nick it or vandalise it. The 2.0 VVT still produces a decent 136bhp and comes with a six speed box. All I need to do is find a nice three door ex demonstrator with leather interior. If I can't find one then I shall have to buy new. And for longer trips to France I shall keep my happy dCi which is still running perfectly and giving good service.

Will mean we will have three Renaults, although one is permanently broken. Anyone know where I can get a new carb for a Dauphine...

Thanks for the replies, always interesting and useful.

Ah, the Renault Dauphine. In my teens I had a mate who could borrow a Dauphine Gordini from a woman who had not yet passed her test. It went rapidly through the lanes of North Yorkshire, and even more rapidly through a hedge or two (backwards!)
