peugeot 406 and a deep puddle - jaggs
hi

im brand new out of the box to this so be gentle

I have a 2001 406 hdi 110bhp with 77k on, today following an hours drive i went through a deep puddle slowly and then within 100yds parked up to visit relatives.

On my return to car it was underpowered and revs would not go above 2000, they then picked upto 3000 with loads of blue smoke out the back. after a few miles and loads of high revs which produced loads of black staining on the road all seems well again, no smoke no power problems.

Had car 18 months and covered 15k trouble free, was this the puddle or is there something going wrong, has it righted itself or do i need to be checking anything. Due to take car to france soon so dont want any problems.

any advice appreciated.

mate,

Check your Air filter, you way well have sucked up some water which 'blocked' it..........I stuffed a 306 td once ralleying though a ford, benda few valves......if your car had 'righted' it self it does not seem to have done any significant damage.......

Air Filter - is it wet of clogged
Check the oil level
check the water levels

air filter is dry but will replace tomorrow as its dirty (done last 12 months ago), oil was half between min and max so i topped that up when i got home. dont understand what caused the blue smoke

Although we live in a wet climate, and rain and poor road maintenance are a commonplace of British lfe, cars are not now designed to go through puddles.
