I have one of the above and it soon to be out of it's warrenty period. What things if anything should I be checking before the warrenty runs out
|
The deal that you can get on a new one?
|
The MOT should throw up any problems.
|
Assuming it is a hatch or saloon the rear subframe bushes, can go at around three years old though usually only if getting on for 100k miles, not expensive to do, can be done DIY though better under warranty of course.
The Zetec S IMO is the best looking MkIII Mondeo, not as OTT as the ST's though subtley sporty and 53 should be facelift one so fairly well equipped too.

try this too mate. make sure all recalls have been sorted. www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/default.asp

Check:
Rear subframe bushes
That the bottoms of the doors on the inside have no paint blistering or rush showing through.
That the alloy wheels have no lifting/blistering laquer that is on the visible face of the wheel.
I have an 03 (March) TDCi and all of the above were an issue. And alas the rusty door bottoms still are GRRRRRRRR!

But the perforation is a 12 year warranty?, surely. It says so in my book ( 2005 Zetec 2l petrol)
so get it in there , or take them to court
( as an aside I had a new rear quarter fitted to my Escort two months before the 6 year warranty expired, so it can be done)

Oh, absolutely!
But rather than resolve the problem by replacing the entire door, Ford will insist on doing a fix first. Also, some of the corrosion has taken nearly four years to appear.
What they don't compensate you for is the three trips to the bodyshop to get the whole thing done.

Oh, absolutely!
Depends how the corrosion has occured. As the anti-perforation warranty name suggests, if the rust has perforated through the panel from the inside out, then the warranty will cover it, but if it is surface rust, or rust that has subsequently occured from something like a stone chip, then it won't.
Can't vouch for Ford, but with Vauxhall the anti-perforation warranty only remains valid if the car has had yearly inspections.

The blistering paint and susequent rusting is the much discussed (on this forum) poor batch of sealant in the doors used on Mondeos and, I believe, Focus. The corrosion migrates from the fold of the exterior door skin and emerges from beneath the sealant.
I have had the yearly paint inspections done, but am strongly inclined to suggest that the inside edge of the door bottoms are not actually inspected. In most peoples cases, they would have to be cleaned first. The rubber strip on the sill of the door also contacts and frets the doors in this region and cannot be helping.
I have yet to hear back from Ford as to whether they will warranty-fix the doors properly this time.

My Mondeo had two new rear doors at 100k miles and nearly four years old, exemplary service and a brand new car to drive while it was being attended to.
The OPs car would not be effected, I guess your March 03 car is pre facelift like mine and was probably built some time in 2002 to be effected.

perforation would be just that - pimples showing through the metal showing corrosion.
surface rust on an inner door edge - well niot so severe.
I did not have annual inspections - youservice a 1.3 Escort yourselve.
And they lent me a new Fiesta for the week that it took to do.
But of course that doesn't mean Ford would act like that again, but it helped me buy another Ford from the same garage- albeit many years later, I have a 2005 Zetec Mondeo now- petrol thank goodness.
