I have had issues with our 200 in this damp cold weather. I tried for 1/2 hour yesterday trying to start ours (only gets used 1 a week now if its lucky). I took off the distributer cap, sprayed all HT lead connectors with WD40 and still nothing, spark plugs out, checked for fuel etc. I was about to give up then remembered a problem we had a couple of years ago with it. The coil is mounted in a really stupid place at the back of the engine towards the bottom - right in the line of water and mud etc. Took the HT lead off (quite hard to get to), cleaned up the connecters, used some more WD40, put back together and it started on the first turn of the key...
Worth a try! Actually having said all of that, does your engine have coil packs or distributer? I think they changed to coil packs in the 25 but late 200s may also have them...

The coil packs were introduced with the rover 25. So no coil packs should be on a 200.
|
I thought that was the case.
If the car is still having starting probs I would then focus my attention on the coil at the back of the engine and maybe give it some new HT leads.
|
If the spark, coil leads are OK.....
Have you noticed poor top end power recently?
The cat collapsed on a Rover 214 I had, eventually blocking the exhaust and preventing it starting
I undid the cat from the front pipe, to get (very noisily) to the garage

As suggested, id make sure that all electrical bits are dry and also check fuses just incase - the
K-series doesnt like getting damp.

>>K-series doesnt like getting damp.
Wont normally affect them unless there is a problem,ie crack /split in insulation somewhere.
If none of the above work, check out the CPS crank position sensor, common to find a faulty one

Thanks for all your replies, hope y'all had good new year
Due to a busy new year, sorry for not getting back to you earlier.
This problem was resolved by fitting 4 new NGK spark plugs, fired up first time. Top stuff
