Does anyone use these for their kids on long drives and do they make them feel sick?
Can you realistically share one between two people ?

What about a two-screened one?

Argos has this on special offer;

tinyurl.com/y4rxtb

£89.99, not much else to say of interest.

Advantages are that the screens would be mounted higher on the headrests and therefore less likely to cause car sickness because the back seat passengers would maintain their natural posture and peripheral vision of the front windscreen, and they would each have their own, more 'normal' viewing angle.

Of course they still have to agree on what film to watch.

That seems unbelievable value for 90 quid.

OUr kids loved the one I fitted for our hols. I think I got it for £200 from Halfords but that was with a big discount as I was buying a roof box as well.

2 screens, one with integral player, both had speakers or headphone socket, 8" adjustable screen. Bit of a PITA to plumb it in - 3 or 4 min task, 2 mins to take it out.

I haven't clicked that link but I'm a great believer in "buy it cheap, buy it twice" and I wouldn't buy a single screen thing as that would be a bit more illness inducing I'd say.

Yes, Cardiff - Portsmouth several times (with returns)

and do they make them feel sick?

No, they're too busy eating crisps, popcorn or whatever!

Depends on screen size & how far apart the children are sitting.
A 7.5 inch screen mounted between the front seats in my Kenari (quite a narrow car) was OK for 3 children in the back.

The Yaris I now have is wider and I have fitted an 8 inch screen which seems OK

We have a Ventura 2 by 7inch screen unit, about £100 from Halfords 2 years ago.
Has succesfully kept the kids quiet on many long drives, including plugging down to the Alps twice last winter.

Advantage of most 2 screens is they can play games on one (not PS2 but still enough to keep them quiet) and watch a DVD on the other.

They jump and stall a bit on Local UK back roads but are fine once you are on the Mway.

No problems with car sickness, biggest moan is they keep asking us to turn the CD down (as they listen t o the DVD on headphones).

I've wired mine into the stereo as the missus in front passenger seat has a screen in the sun visor and wants to watch as well!

I listen to many films and watch few!

Interesting - When playing my keyboard with headphones, I find external sounds seem to be louder rather than muffled.

Johnny,

I am looking at buying the same thing for the same reason, Argos have a twin screen set made by a 'Ace Solutions' that is capable of playing different movies on each screen so is really 2 Dvd players, has anyone seen this in action ? It is listed at aroung £189 so seems good value.

Make should have been 'Acoustic Solutions'

We have a twin 7" screen, got it from Ebuyer.com works well and keeps our 3yr old happy - I now know all the words to chittychittybangbang off by heart, and am getting used to the background music on a tom & jerry dvd!!!!!!!! I am hoping she will be big enough to start using the headphones soon to save my sanity!!!!!

I have a Scenic so pull the middle seat forward as far as possible and fold it down into a table. I then secure the laptop to it and the kids, sitting on either side, watch the DVDs on the laptop with headphones plugged in.

Good big screen as well.

had ours cpl of years and kids love it.

Is great if you go for picnic too and want dvd to watch etc. Know a cpl of other guys who take girls out and watch porn dvds on it; not sure if thats good or not tho !

Also very handy if you travel abroad a bit (as we do) and can play dvd on it but connect it to tv so watch it on biggeer screen. \Handy if u want to wwatch films in mother tongue rather than tv you cant fully understand.

Only got a 1 screen version but it accepts 2 headphones so either 1 or both can watch it.

Easy to mount strung between seats or on back seat or hanging from headrest etc. Strap arrangement holds it firm no problem. Wasnt the cheapest one but certainly worth while.

There was a report from the ADAC (German AA/RAC) a short while back which reported that DVDs mounted to the back of the headrest could be a danger to the front passenger. Apparently in a front impact, they can rotate and give you a good crack on the back of the head.
