Honda Civic SE 1998 - electrical probs - Urban Spaceman
I have a low mileage 1998 Civic, which after flattening its battery, and having it recharged, and refitted, will not do anything. Even the drivers door window will not close now. As far as I can tell, the only thing working, are the 4 way flashers. I tried the central locking, but now have to use the key.
I have looked through almost all of the previous postings on this site, but have been unable to find any similar problem from other people.
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Regards,

Urban

I would suggest check the main circuit breaker fuses found in the engine bay fuse box. They are the large metal strip type usually rated at 40 or 60 amps.

I haven't managed to find those just yet. I had a look (quickly) at the ones in the drivers side by the steering wheel. Now I will try to locate the rest of them.
Thanks for that suggestion.

Are you sure that the battery is ok and can hold charge?

The battery was recharged overnight, after it had gone flat. The battery is less than a year old.
But I will try jumping it from another car this weekend, just to make sure.
It would seem that this problem is new to everyone. Have I got a first?
I hope not, or if I have, I hope it is a simple and economic fix.

But does the battery hold charge? That is, you could charge it for days but if the battery is kapputt .... Cheap batteries fail frequently. An infrequently used car will kill batteries, fast.

After taking the fuse out of the Under bonnet box, and checking it, - this is the 80 Amp fuse - I managed to find it had blown after all. The reason I missed it in the first place, was that the open circuit was hardly visible, looking at it in my hand. I had no chance eyeballing the problem whilst it was installed.

Thank you to everyone who have offered suggestions on here.
There is one further broblem however. I will post it separately.

I shall have a look at that too, when I get back to it. I am temporarily away from it at the moment. Should be reunited with it tomorrow.

Thanks for that,
