I recently bought a 3 series BMW on an L plate. I'd have thought it would have had remote C/Locking but the previous owner (it's fourth previous owner) said the car didn't have it. It has a key with a button and what looks like a small led 'transmitter' type thing. I dont think this is the old key torch type things that were useless after a few months. Is there anything I can look for without dismantling the doors that would indicate that there should be remote c/locking on the car or is it easier to try and replace the battery on the key and see what happens?
Cheers, Stuart

No idea if the car has C/L or not, but if the fob is an infra-red type, you can test it by either pointing it directly at any digital camera or holding it next to a radio tuned to AM. If working, you will see visual flashes on the digi camera display, or audible beeps coming from the radio.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try that. Just to clarify, the car does have central locking which correctly operates from either front door or the boot. It's just not operating remotely

Sorry, I meant to type remote, and not just C/L.
