I have recently heard of the pipeline card. www.pipelinecard.org.
The card has not been launched yet. The guy behind the card is trying to arrange a discount on fuel for private motorists.
Has anyone else heard of this card? What are your views?

IMHO, it's a scam.
It's been collecting email addresses for 18 months, and then sending out messages saying they're just on the brink of a deal (for over a year) and the email they send always has referal links for things like switching your gas and electricity supplier, and they get paid commission everytime anyone clicks, and even more if they sign up.

Agreed - he's trying, very trying....

I'll show my backside in Burton's window if he gets it up and running. The margins are too small for fuel retailers as it is, so giving away more margin to get business just won't work.

I think the margin was meant to come mainly from the fuel wholesaler not the retailer....

I signed up for this about a year ago and nothing since. I don't think he is going to engineer a discount which equals the retailer's margin on the product! In the meantime people won't sign up until they are convinced it will work and retailers won't sign up until there are 1/2 a million people on the books so it is a chicken and egg scene!

I don't think it's a scam, but I'm doubtful about whether they will ever get there. Didn't they manage a special deal on oil for oil heaters recently? Anyone take that one up?

i dont think it is a "scam" in the sense that someone is conning us

there are far easier ways to get peoples address's/email address's

but i do think it is a little long in coming....

as someone previous said..the margins are so small there really isnt a lot to save

Yes Boilerjuice, and that already existed, but the link in the email had a commission junction ID code on the end e.g.

ASDA are currently offering 2p litre off the own fuel, if it is purchased with an ASDA credit card.

I signed up for it over a year ago too, and not much has happened.

Sainsbury's are doing 5p per litre off at the moment with any in store spend of >£50.

It sounded too good to be true a year ago - and still is IMO!

I'm with Pascal on this one:

If you believe in God and turn out to be incorrect, you have lost nothing -- but if you don't believe in God and turn out to be incorrect, you will go to hell. Therefore it is foolish to be an atheist.

So, I've signed up - which involved the huge cost of giving them an email address - one I reserve for non-regular use. Thus, I have become one of the numebr they might need to make this succeed. The potential reward is that this does work out, in which case I'll be rewarded. I don't see what the problem is. People are too cynical these days. Perhaps if people were a little less cynical, this scheme might get the required momentum. A similar scheme in the Netherlands is working fine.

As regards the other offers; they have now moved these to a separate part of their site, so that people coming in for the pipeline deal need to choose to go there rather than seeing the offers on the first page. Hardly the work of dedicated scammers.

I'm not connected with them in any way. Unlike some of the people on this site, I'd just be happy for them to succeed. I often wonder why we crave failure in this country.

...and I'm with Vin. I signed up ages ago, on the basis that it would never happen without support. I've just had two or three emails from them, and I'm happy for them to bring good motoring-related offers to my attention. Makes a change from the more, erm, health-related offers I get!
