vauxhall astra stalling - kinsussex
Vauxhall astra 1998, 60,000m, intermitent stalling at junctions, on slowing when foot off gas. etc. Otherwise runs fine. Tickover at about 850rpm. been serviced and nothing detected by plug in fault reader. any thoughts as to where to start? Many thanks.

If it stalls when stationary in traffic it could possibly be the idle control valve. Could need cleaning or replacing. Shop around for the best price if replacing as cost can vary (Vauxhall often more expensive than independent garages).

Presumably petrol engine?

we had 2 vecra's same year as yours ( company cars ), 1 had this problem the other was fine, we had it in to a dealer about 6 times and they could not cure it, or tell us what was causing it, my guess is a glitch in the software. anway luckily it was nicked and never found. hope you have better luck.

thankyou for your reply. petrol 1800 cd model. when slowing revs just drop right to zero and car stalls. is idle valve easy to get at? What would be best to clean it with? Thanks Dave.

These idle valves are best replaced (rather than cleaned) when they start to play up.
