Just finished a test on my car after running the Redex Gold diesel injector treatment through it. With 40 litres of cheap 'n' nasty Esso diesel in followed by 20 litres of BP Ultimate, the fuel economy went from 44 to 51mpg.
I was exceptionally sceptical so am continuing to test with cheap diesel to see if the benefits last. If not, it's back onto the Ultimate. :)

I can't get my head round the figures but is the perceived improvement in fuel consumption worth the x pence per litre extra cost of the exotic fuel? Does the exotic fuel actually cost that much more or is it hyped up and sold with a better profit margin. Oil companies love their profits after all!

'Ordinary' fuels are all the same. No one will ever convince me otherwise.
Yes there are premium fuels and yes they seem to give some bhp/mileage benefits but they cost more.
Are they worthwhile? Ultimately in my opinion just too complicated a question to answer.
No motorists usage will be the same. Each motorists usage will differ. You can say 'I take the same route each day every day' but one road closure accident and your stats are all over the place.
Add in life of engine arguments and your benefits calculation needs to be on a life of car basis.
Impossible. My answer? Just buy the cheapest fuel you can find.

It's impossible to to calculate a meaningful fuel consumption over such a small quantity of fuel as 60 litres. There are too many variables that will affect consumption and the degree of "experimental error" will be too large.

I can drive round in Dresden and never go up a hill ,when I come to Bradford its all hills and I lose around 15% fuel economy so as L'escargot correctlly says the figures are meaningless. All these fancy additives and wonderfuels are like the emperors new cloths you'll believe anything under the right conditions.

I certainly don't imagine the reduced smoke under heavy acceleration when I use Millers Diesel additive. No clue what it does for economy as I don't keep track of my fuel useage. I tried a few times, but got bored and gave up. I decided I just wasn't curious enough and knowing the correct MPGs in relation to what the computer readout claims has no bearing my needing to refuel when the needle reaches "E" and the warning light illuminates.
