I am now in my 6th week since the purchase of a second hand vehicle from a dealer. The V5 still has not turned up. I have the tear off slip. DVLA did send me a letter after about 3 weeks thanking me for notification of change of my previous vehicle which was px'd.
Anyone with similar experience.Whats the current lead time?

Change of address in May took about 2.5 weeks.

My bike took less than three weeks (not bad bearing in mind it wasn't even SORN'd by the previous keeper)

I bought a second hand car on April 28th, and only received the V5 at the end of last week, so 5 weeks. In fact it was taking so long , I'd just filled in a form for a duplicate (V11?) and sent it off with the tear-off slip the evening before!

I was worried that when I bought my new car at the begining of May I wouldn't have the V5 for when I went abroad later that month......received the V5 four days after I had picked it up from the dealers!!

Approx 3 weeks including change from personal plate to original registration

6 weeks seems a bit long to me. I bought a car from a dealer and they lost the V5 before sending it off (I still had the green bit)
I sent off the form for a new one, enclosing the green bit cos that way you don't have to pay for it. On the form it says that if you are just applying for a duplicate of a car in your name then it should take up to two weeks, if you are after one for a car that you have bought, it may take up to 4 weeks as they write to the former keeper to make sure you're not pulling a fast one...
At 6 weeks I'd be phoning up DVLA to make some enquiries..

Phoned today and informed the V5 had been put in the post last Friday so arrival should be imminant.

I sent in a V5 to have the VIN changed at the end of April and I still haven't got it back yet.

My brother has just helped me buy a 2000 yaris.
He says I can't get insured on it untill he recieves a v5!
Just reading on everyones replies... 6 weeks??! I've waited 2months to finally buy a first car, now I have to wait between 2-6 weeks!!! Omg... Patience isn't my thing!
Anyway my question is, can I get insurance without the v5??!
Does the v5 basically state the owner of the car?
|
He doesn't need a V5 to get insurance. No insurer will ask for one unless there is a collision and it is written off.
A V5 is the DVLA's record of the registered keeper and does not confer or imply vehicle ownership.

I've just done a registration transfer at a VRO and i've received the V5C in two weeks.
I'm quite impressed - however they screwed up the reprinted MOT certificate.
They left half of my old reg and half of my personal reg on the MOT certificate. Looks like they don't pay attention to detail!!

Bought car last week (wednesday), got v5 today.
About normal time in my opinion; used to be slower about 18 months ago.
|
I alwys try and post the previous owner's slip myself.
|
Well, I sent one off in June, with corrections and a colour change (I'd repainted it) and got my new one - in October!
|
If anyone is till interested I've just got my V5 back after 10 weeks!
|
Wow, is it gold plated with hand-done caligraphy in blue ink?

No - but there was something in the news a few weeks back about DVLA staff getting fired for sending smutty emails when they should have been working. I suspect that this might have had something to do with it.
