I have purchased a tow bar 2nd hand and have been told i need to have the wiring done by a main dealer because of the on board computer, i am told the wiring plug needs activating,does anyone have any ideas?

Depends on the year and whether your car has multi-plexed wiring. If it has; then the BSI unit needs to be told that there is a towbar fitted or serious damage can ensue.

You might be able to get a cheaper, non-genuine wiring kit if you shop around; but you'll still need the body computer re-configuring with suitable diagnostic equipment. Check that towbar is the type-approved version before fitting it to a late car.
