Saab/Volvo/Nissan, Less reliable? - bbroomlea{P}
Was pondering this on the way to work this morning (radio was boring me!).

Are the likes of Saab/Volvo and Nissan less reliable than they were before being swallowed up by the big fish? They have always been a challenger brand and stood for quality and reliability and went on forever. Doesnt seem the case now. Am I wrong?

I understand from talking to people who have worked with these brands that Nissan are experiencing less reliable cars and increased warranty costs due to them sharing Renault products. Also the same with Saab who obviously use GM bits. I would be suprised if Volvo were becoming less relaible as Ford are pretty switched on to improved reliability nowdays and have learnt alot from Mazda.
I realise that this must infuriate the anti-Jap brigade on this site but it is a fact that Japanese cars are currently the most reliable. This is evident in all the Cust sat surveys and can be seen by comapring cars in the CBCB.
Having said that the main Japenese makers run their Companys very different from each other but with the sole aim of satisfying the customer for the benefit of long term profits and business continuity (as opposed to short term gain).

I've had two good SAAB's over 6 years but a colleague has just taken delivery of a new 9-3 1.9 tdi and it's been back to the dealership twice with big problems. The dealer was VERY quick to offer all sorts of sweeteners like a track day at Oulton Park which suggests that this is not an isolated problem.

Read this post this morning and not half an hour later a colleague told me his 55 plate 9-3 1.9tdi had not come back from service yesterday because it needed a new fuel pump!

Isn't the 1.9tdi unit in the VX/SAAB ranges supplied by Fiat/Alfa Romeo?

It's actually a Joint Fiat/GM unit, unfortunately the unreliable ancillaries like fuel pumps, MAFs etc are supplied by Bosch!
