Peugeot 306 1.9 diesel no fuel coming from fuel injection pump when turning engine over. Is it the pump, the immobiliser or some other fault? Does anyone have any ideas, know how to check or had a similar problem?

First check whether your car has the immobiliser fitted. Later models had these black boxes fitted underneath a security plate next to the stop solenoid. If so, could be an immobiliser fault.
Easiest way to by pass this for checking is to remove stop solenoid, and pull out the moving stop plunger and refit. Might as well test operation of solenoid by connecting direct to battery. Refitting without the plunger, the valve is now permanently open. If it starts then you may have a faulty immobiliser. These are paired with the alarm/immobiliserE ECU.
What injector pump is it ? Lucas or Bosch. If its a Lucas, and somebody has been running it on veg oil for extended periods, then you may be looking at a broken rotor shaft in the pump.

Almost forgot, if it starts without the plunger, you will need to stop the engine. Do this either by stalling it, or ideally push/pulling the stop lever on the pump.

If your 306 is '98> with the transponder immobiliser (no keypad) the fault will most likely be in the aerial coil around the ignition lock barrel.
Remove this assembly (easy) separate the two halves of the moulding and take out the pc board. Now clean and accurately align the two pins on the moulding which connect to the aerial coil. These pins go out of alignment in production when the coil leads are soldered on, as they are embedded in thermoplastic. Smear the connector pins with a very small quantity of vaseline. Mate and unmate the connector 5 times. Now file the main moulding which locates the pc board to allow full engagement of the connector - it only went half way in as made. Use a blob of blutack to fix the pc board in, if necessary. Re-assemble, as they say.
Don't disturb the fuel pump unless you absolutely have to. The Bosch pumps are reliable, but the shroud around the stop solenoid is cast iron, with shear bolts and a roll pin. It won't come apart without a fight. 99% of problems are at the lock barrel end. Burn an effigy to Valeo.

Hiya,
I had a prob just like this, the nice man from the AA said that i had a air lock in the pump itself, this can be caused just by a build up for crap within it, we cured it by basicly tow-starting it as this forced the blockage out, i advise using the diesel engine cleaners that you can pick up from your local petrol station that you mix in with your fuel. hope this is of help.
