Hi,
I thing we have looked for too long at cars and have totally confused ourselves.
I am looking for a new car to buy this weekend. I have a budget of £5500 and a p/x worth about £5000 - £5500 if i am lucky. I currently have a smart Peugeot 206 estate 1.4 petrol on a 04 plate.
We have a 1 year old son. We want something reliable, safe and if possible a Diesel. It should be a 55 plate or later and have a decent about of space in the boot. The main problem in the 206 is when we put him in the car seat, its not going to be long before we bang his head. I am also 6 foot 3 so should be able to sit comfortably for long journeys.
We have looked at the following
Nissan Note 1.5 Diesel New. My friend works for them so I get a very nice discount. Wife things its pig ugly, but inside it ticks every box. Maybe, but I am worried about Renaults faults?
Ford Cmax 1.6 Petrol LX New. Wife is not confortable with the size. Maybe
Focus. Doesnot offer anything over the 206 for us.

Astra 1.3 estate. Too Big length wise. Wife doesnot like it.
Fiat Idea. Wouldnot every have another fiat.
Renault Senic and Modus. I live to far from the dealers
Vauxhall Meriva. Big Blind spot.
New Look Ford Fusion? 1.4 diesel too slow, 1.6 diesel too expensive therefore leaves us looking at petrols. Would anyone recommend one?

You need something bigger. A nice Skoda turbodiesel. You'll get something almost new for the budget.

Rover 75 Estate. New turbo diesel with all the toys for 10 grand-ish.

Is the Rover 75 going to turn into the new Mondeo TDCi? ;-)

Nissan Note 1.5 Diesel New. The Modus is better looking, nor friends discount though good prices from brokers. Nissan dealer could probably service it.
Ford Cmax 1.6 Petrol LX New. Good to drive, very spacious inside, a diesel would be better, the 1.6 TDCi is fine, you should get a very nearly new 1.6 TDCi Zetec (110) in budget.
Focus. "Does not offer anything over the 206 for us." Larger and much better to drive than a 206, read above re C-Max then take away a little practicality and add a little brio.
Vauxhall Meriva. "Big Blind spot." Agree re blind spot though I found a 1.8 petrol good to drive and well laid out inside.
New Look Ford Fusion? Better off with a Focus or C-Max.
