My insurers refused to cover a Citroen C3 courtesy car while my car is being serviced because the courtesy car is expensive!!
They won't cover a courtesy car that is more valuable then your own car! Well then, my just over 3 year old C5 is then worthless and I can't be trusted with a nearly new supermini!.
Thats one more question to ask at renewal time!

Very odd! I took my 3 yr old Berlingo for service a couple of weeks ago. Never having had a courtesy car before I didn't realise I needed insurance for it - a C3. Much embarrassment until I rang my ins co Direct via a telephone Line (geddit??) and not only did they insure me but also faxed a copy there and then to garage so I could drive off. Obviously a Berlingo is worth more than same age C5!

Oh, and they also said they would insure me for two days on both cars in case my car had to stay in for unforeseen work and it cost nothing extra. No idea whether this is normal practise since it was my first experience.

I use DirectLine but fortunately I've never had to call on its services touch wood.
It's not only the insurance company that offers the lowest comprehensive premium for my Bora (well under £200), but also the only one that has ever reduced the previous year's premium charge at renewal time...:-)

How mean! Both my insurers (liv victoria & Aon (royal sun alliance)) specifically list courtesy cars as being covered as a matter of course. Time to switch :-)

NU Direct automatically insure you (well me anyway) on any car loaned by a garage for up to five days at a time, no need to even inform them, it is stated on the cover note.

>>it is stated on the cover note.
I mean certificate.

I would look again at the Insurance Policy.
It might say Courtesy Cars are covered whilst in for repairs after an accident at their recommended repairer
This does not cover you for a courtesy car when the car is in for a service or mechanical repairs (unless they were needed after an accident).

It would be too expensive to crash the car each time it needs an oil change. LOL

Liverpool Victoria/Frizzell specifically insure you for a courtesy car, loaned to you while your car is in for service, and their insurance is good value overall as well!
