Golf couple's fuel efficiency record - Stuartli
Just in case you may have missed it, there's a story today about husband-and-wife team John and Helen Taylor setting a new fuel efficiency record on a 78-day around the world drive.

Using a special new non-standard fuel formulated by Shell they drove 18,000 miles through 25 counties and their VW Golf used just 24 tanks of fuel (287 gallons), averaging 62.7mpg. They had originally been expected to use at least 50 tankfuls.

No details of which engine was involved is given in the Daily Mail story.

To think someone posted a thread a while ago entitled "is this forum anti Alfa Romeo". With comments like this we could do with a thread entitled "is this forum anti VaG group"!

It's alright, they took that into account. To quote from one of the links I posted earlier "John and Helen Taylor will be supported by Volkswagen mechanics and an official Guinness observer. This team will be accompanying the Taylors in two Passat Estate FSI cars, so will likewise be able to benefit from FSI technology in addition to having ample storage space."

Ample storage space for spares maybe, and if all else failed, they could drown their sorrows with a pint or two of Dublin's finest :o)
