fair wear and tear 2002 fiesta diesel - ConradH
My Fiesta 2002 Diesel just failed its MOT for split lower arm bushes, after 44,000 miles and cost me £250 parts and labour..

Does anyone think this is fair wear and tear on a 4 year old car? As I do not.

I am thinking of writing to Ford to complain but wanted a second opinion first.

44,000 miles, 4 years old?

Given the state of our roads and the plethora of speed humps, Yes I think thats fair wear and tear.

Dont complain to Ford, complain to the Dept of transport.

Depends on how you drive and local road surfaces.

96 Fiesta(1) replaced both at 80k in 2004. About £125 supplied and fitted IIRC.

96 Fiesta(2) now at 50k now sign of failure yet.

Generally speed bump induced failure at lower mileages.

We have a 1999 Ka with about the same mileage - lower arms have been replaced twice if not three times so far. They ae clearly a weak point but I suspect it's potholed roads and speed bumps that finish them off so quickly.

If the Fiesta uses the same part I would say you've done well.

It might be the size of the car. Nothing like that has ever been replaced on my 99 Focus. I'm one of those annoying people that veers all over the place to avoid potholes though.
