Could anyone shed any light (pun not intended!) as to why I am in a constant battle with blowing bulbs on my 1994 diesel Mondeo! A new battery did little for this. Apart from this annoying and rather expensive pastime, it is a great car at 127000 miles and not losing a drop of oil in its 140 mile daily round trip! Any clues, hints or even plain answers will be gratefully received!

Have you had the charging voltage checked? If it's too high it may damge the battery, and bulb life is definitely shortened. It's less of a problem with alternators than dynamos, but worth a check.

could be the voltage regulator on the charging circuit - usually part of the alternator I think?
