I was driving to work today when my car died, there was a little fuel left but not much, i went to the local petrol station to get some more but the car would not start even with more fuel, the timing belt is intact, i cannot think of anything else to check, maybe the injectors are block due to it running on low fuel?
if anyone knows what it might be i would gladly appriciate the advice. thanks

could well be what you are thinking, I have had this happen on 2 golfs and 1 scirrocco, never happened on other makes (yet).2 out of the 3 had developed a hole in the fuel filler neck where the petrol nozzle would hit against it.this meant all sorts of grit and carp from the road ended up in the tank which would block the filter on the fuel sender inside the tank itself when i ran low. i am sure someone will be along shortly with more knowledge and skill to give you some other directions but may be worth checking this for now
