Am about to change ign coil and fuel filter or should i change car? What about Hall unit?
Thanks

The long, high speed run reference would suggest the endemic carb icing problem that always afflicted the VW range. Make sure that the essential hot-air pick-up system is all present and fully functional.

Is that the hose that runs from the exhaust manifold to the the carb?

Yes; that's the one. It's not uncommon for the tin-box on the manifold, the hose, all the vacuum lines and the temp switch inside the filter to be completely missing. Few are fully-functional.
It's widely believed that these bits are unnecessary - not on a VW with a silly fragile-rubber heat insulator under the carb they're not! They've even got [if the wires haven't broken]electrically heated passages inside the carb[!!] and an electric manifold "heated hedgehog" to try and ameliorate this common fault that is completely self-inflicted! [Why they didn't just junk that heat insulator...?]

"[Why they didn't just junk that heat insulator...?]"
In effect they have, no VW's have Pierburgs now, all injection.

i recently sold my 1989 driver.. its either gonna run like a dream or... man ur gonna have some fun!
the best advice i can give is a webber. the carbs are terrible, iceing up, overfueling, choking its self at idle, high eratic idle, misfires, flat spots, overun ( after ignition is turned off ) ... the best thing i did to my pierberg was changed the vacuum pipes with halfords washer jet pipping, it selted and lowered the idle alot. the other thing has been mentioned.. that tiny pipe from the exhuast manifold and the flap on the intake are essential during these cold times!
