Have just bought a clean one with FSH to tow my caravan.(3 months dealer warranty.}3 glitches have appeared,As soon as the wheels start turning the speedo climbs rapidly from 0 to 50 and the needle stays there until the car actually stops,at which point it falls slowly back to 0.When the engine is fired up from cold the rev counter registers the revs correctly, but after about five minutes the needle fluctuates wildly and then dies. And 3rdly after about 20 miles an orange warning light comes on.it is directly above the red Handbrake On light. Anyone know what it is? I assume that the first two glitches are sensor/ bad connection related. Am I right? Cheers.

i would advise you to post on www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=3
this is a specialist site on the xantia and citroen. whats not on there is not worth knowing!
is the orange light the engine management light?

i doubt Citroen will know much of this, very old car. (that?s what they told me, two years ago!!)
Try a specialist, much cheaper, more knowledgeable and better service.
As i say post on the French car forum, you will get replies, i guarantee.

Take it back it is under warranty.

Speedo fault is probably the speed sensor on the gear box; rev counter is TDC sensor on bellhousing (or wiring connectors for both / either). Fault with both suggests the box has been out for clutch replacement! The orange light is water in the fuel filter warning. It's unlikely you have an water in there - the sensor is notoriously unreliable - I'd just disconnect it.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

Thanks 4 advice Richard. The clutch WAS worked on just before I picked it up.The sensor warning light has a black outline on it. Picture a round bottomed central heating hot water storage tank open at the top with two pipes exiting and a liquid represented at the bottom. YOU GOT IT!! The light only comes on at odd times and goes out when I am taking a left hand bend at a speed greater than a crawl.Could this be LHM level related? Cheers.
|
Low LHM will light a red warning lamp and the big STOP light will come on as well.

Thanks again Richard. It is the fuel filter light.Drained the condensation...no light.

Thanks for the advice. Had never heard of French Car Forum. Tried to register but it keeps returning E MAIL ADDRESS BANNED.
ANY IDEAS? Cheers.
|
Did you test drive the car before you purchased it, or have all of these faults only appeared since you bought it?
|
|
"Tried to register but it keeps returning E MAIL ADDRESS BANNED."
I believe they stop you registering using an internet type e-mail address (eg hotmail, lycos etc). You need to use one provided by your ISP.

Cheers Richard. Test drove it first seemed ok. Speedo repaired after 2 weeks of courtesy car,Sensor changed for known good one still no good,NEW sensor fitted STILL U/S.Fault finally traced to damaged nylon ring gear which drives the sensors brass bevel gear. Cost for a new one ? £2.70. GEARBOX OUT TO FIT IT.!!!!!
Rev counter still working when started from cold and dying after a few miles. Courtesy car was a Volvo V40 1.8i My verdict......Underpowered Mega thirsty Lump{gearchanging like trying to stir a bucket of treacle with a piece of rubber pipe}
