I have managed to get a secondhand replacement key fob for my rover 25 (03).It will need reprogramming but obviously rover cant do it !!!Any ideas where i can get it done and the approx cost ?

A decent locksmiths will be able to do it, only thing is they may need to reprogramme all the keys. I know a locksmith near me offers this service (R H Bright in Southend on Sea, Essex). They get very busy and you have to make an appointment so they must be doing something right! Hope this helps.

According to the handbook if you have an existing key fob and just want to replace the battery you hold down both buttons for ten secs then press the buttons repeatly until it locks.
Wonder if its the same for a secondhand replacement ?

Car is a Rover 25 on an '03 plate. Where do i get it reprogrammed now there is no rover dealerships ?Any ideas.Will halfords do it ?

If it is just for opening the doors it is not so great a problem if it is the immobiliser then good look,you will need the specific codes for your car and the Rover software on a computer connected to your cars ECU.All Rover owners should gaurd their keys with their life especially those from 75's.Try and get a new set of keys for a 75 plus the ECU codes and get them programmed probaly easier to buy a ton of hens teeth.

Theres plenty of options to get a keyfob reprogrammed for a Rover.
Your local former Rover dealer or x-Part service centre should still have the right kit. If not Land Rover dealers do as the same immobiliser ecu is used on freelanders and Discovery's.
IIRC the Rover system is actually made by Lucas- so have a look in the yellow pages under engine management for a 'Lucas Service Centre' you'll probably find that they've got the right equipment.

You forget one thing you need the Rover codes for this specific car not available at Land Rover or Lucas.

But have they got the car codes it is not permissablle for a third party to hold these and must be paid for on a one to one job.As rover does not exist where are the codes held.There are many firms that can program the locks but the anti theft in the ECU is a different matter.

Just Emailed my old rover main dealership.They reckon they still do Rover servicing spares etc. so I'll see what there answer is !!!!!

Ex Rover dealership still do it £56.40 + Vat.(Cant Guarantee it will work !!)
Rover specialist breakers will do it for £40 No problems it will work just bring car and key you are using.
Where do you think I should go ????.

I say ex bexause he was a main dealer who has now shifted over to Ford.Therefore Ex rover !!!!

if you have two old keys you can do it yourself by doing this
#
unlock car with key
hold fob close to car
press the padlock button 4 times in quick succession and your ready to go

Did you ever sort this out? I've got a Rover 400. The battery in the fob ran out and when i replaced it, the fob wouldn't work.
Any help would be appreciated!!
