Doea anyone have any experience with this company? Confused.com has come up with them as the lowest quote for my renewal. They've only been mentioned once on here as being good with young drivers - hardly something I can claim to be anymore!
Any tales to tell?

I myself also obtained a very low quote from Quinn Direct, but I didn't take it up.
From what I remember there are a few strange things about them, the strangest being that if you try to subsequently transfer a NCB earned with Quinn to another insurance company, the new company won't accept it. That might not be exactly right, but it's something on those lines.
If you do decide to take up their offer I would download their online policy first and read it very carefully.
Take care!

afaik Quinn Direct are an Irish company, and therefore are not members of the ABI. That is why it is tricky to transfer NCB from them.
They seem to advertise mostly in the 'red top' papers. May give an indication of which market they are after.

Try NFU mutal. I get all my insurance, motor, home, tradesmans liability etc. Competitve for all.

Strange that Quinn Direct Insurance have huge offices here in Enniskillen which last time I looked was part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Norhern Ireland. One point though - check about personal injury cover and make sure its the same as other insurers. Lots of people insured here with them and no problems.

they're mostly ok. i rang them a few times to ask specific questions about my policy (glass cover etc) and they were very helpfull. they even called me back at work when we got cut off which i was most surprised about.
my work mate is also with them, but his cover note turned up with the wrong car details on! he called them and it was sorted out immediately.
i would mention, however, if your tax is due around the same time then to be carefull. the cover notes can take about a week to arrive.
i've never made a claim with them but have had a claim made against me, they dealt with everything and kept me updated.

Thanks for your comments. I noticed on their website that they are properly licensed or regulated for car insurance in England (but apparently not for house insurance).
I hadn't thought about ABI membership and NCD policies and will definitely investigate further. My renewal notice will come in shortly and we will see what direct line is offering this time.
As I'd never heard of Quinn, you can tell the papers I don't read!
|
They *are* members of ABI.
|
And I cannot conceivably think of any way that there can be issues with NCD transfer. It is an insurer within the British market, whoever it is owned by.
This is not the same as having insurance overseas as when, for example, living abroad.

I have tranfered German no claims bonus to the UK and back with no problem ,the certicates have covered all EU languages so to have problems with an Irish company sounds like a bit of fobbing off,Quinn is is quite a well respected company and should not create any problems

My boyfriend is insured with Quinn and we have only just noted one ambiguity, which may be we should have noticed before now but oh well. The small print on his certificate of insurance states that he is only insured 3rd Party when driving, even though his policy is for Fully Comprehensive. This was not mentioned when we first spoke to them and decided to go with them. They assured us he would be insured fully comprehensively. It just shows that we should have read the small print more carefully. Perhaps that is why they are so cheap in comparison with some other companies.
|
That needs checking surely?!
What do they say about it?
|
Are you quite sure it doesn't say something like "Only covered for third party when driving other cars"?
If this is so, then it'a quite usual.
|
|
|
I think something is a little confused. A certificate *ONLY EVER* gives third party (RTA) cover. Any extension beyond that is given by the policy schedule.
I would guess that you're talking of the driving other cars (DOC) extension ?

This company has a good track record in Ireland(Eire) and in Northern Ireland(UK)
Their motor insurance seems to offer good value for money.
One of the ways it achieves this is by cutting out major overhead expenses. It tries to avoid long winded expensive legal claims in its claims dept. (Many such claims only 'feather the nest' of the legal profession)This was especially true in Ireland where the company was founded.
If you have a claim against Quinn Direct you will be approached almost immediately and given the opportunity to settle with them promptly. (However if the offer is not to your liking you can then proceed legally in the normal manner.)
With economic settlement of claims, it can offer cheaper motor insurance and so benefit everbody.

I'm fairly sure that is what it said because I thought it was really odd. I know that he is only covered 3rd party to drive other cars, that was standard and we understood that when we got the policy but this was something specifically about him driving his car and only being 3rd party insured whereas he is insured fully comprehensively presumably when the car is parked etc.

I'm fairly sure that is what it said

"fairly sure" - not good enough. easy to check and be 100% sure.

Thanks, 10 out of 10 or virtually zero! Very happy customers or 'never again' customers...

Odd. Those least satisfied are Quinn customers claiming on their own insurance.

The chaps report that says they have a £175 excess on windscreen claims is what caught my eye. It's usually about £60 with most other companies.
Worth looking into?!
