what a bad week were having ,this is our 2nd caravelle gone wrong ,the problem is on this that all the instrument gauges go down and at the same time the battery is getting very hot and bubbling ,1 month ago it had a new alternator fitted from vw as the battery would be flat every morning and this cured that but now we have the opposite effect but a battery totally overcharged ???????

Charge rate should be no more than 14.4-14.5volts. VW may have fitted a 'reconditioned' unit not from VW and there are some, shall we say, lesser reconditioners out there and the voltage regulator may be faulty.
Wants fixing asap as if the instrument panel is objecting it may cause damage. Bear in mind that from 1998 (blue illuminated gauges) the immobiliser is built into the dash insert and consequently neither straightforward or cheap to replace.

hi should of said its on a r plate 1996

would you know where the voltage regulator is on this model any help would be great as we now have 2 caravelles off the road
|
is the regulator seperate or built in the alternator cheers
|
any one else any knowledge of these ,electrics not our forte ,and typical why is it all ways weekend some thing goes wrong
|
I think your safest bet is to go back to VW, and get it checked out. There's bound to be a years warranty.

thanks for your replys ,indeed weve found it to be a re-con alternator and on getting a friend to test it ,it is pushing near 16 volt into the battery hence the cooked battery and dials shutting down .
