Greetings like minded folk. Can somebody out there please inform me of the correct circuitry & colour code for wiring the socket to compliment the trailer plug. Does continental practice differ from U.S.A. ie. Citroen/Jeep.
Regards & good motoring. Roy Hands.

Check out www.towsure.co.uk down the bottom they have a link for info, we use 12s connector in the uk If you are still unsure, go into any car acessory / parts shop with paper and pen and take a note from the packaging of plugs or sockets.

On the plug, viewed from the wiring side it is:
1 (L) Yellow L H Indicator
2 (54G) Blue Fog Lamp
3 (31) White Earth
4 (R) Green R H Indicator
5 (58R) Brown RH Tail and Number Plate
6 (54) Red Stop Lamps
7 (58l) Black LH Tail Light
The numbers go clockwise starting at the top, number 7 is the centre connection
The car socket will be a mirror image

Tip: Ignore what should be top of where, and mirror image of this or that.
Most plugs and sockets have pin numbers embossed on the wiring side of the connector, just use these, otherwise it is possible to get so confused, that you are sure that you are right, and the rest of the world is wrong!..... and why is he looking at me.... they are all out to get me.................

Don't be daft - you have to ensure that ANY trailer / caravan or whatever you connect up is compatible with all others otherwise you may be braking and indicators come on etc. Follow Brian's advice ( although I haven't checked his info. )

7 pole and 13 pole are the euro standard ,you need 13 pole if you are towing a new caravan as you require a heavy power supply for the van battery and fridge also for the rear fog lamps.7 pole is ok for a small trailer. Also you can fit a convertero13 to 7if required. My Explorer has both fitted.
