My key blip no longer unlocks the doors. The red LED on the front of the key doesn't light - I am assuming that the battery inside the blip has died (the operating range of the blip has gradually been getting worse over time). Any ideas on how I replace it? Or do I have to buy a new blip?

You won't need a new plip if it's the battery that's gone. (The battery can be replaced)
I'm afraid I'm not au fait with Peugeot key fobs though. It might need reprogramming if you change the battery which you can do yourself but again, I'm guessing.
I seem to recall it being covered a while ago. If you do a quick forum search that might turn something up. Failing that, someone will be along soon to answer your question more helpfully!

Our 306 uses a CR1620 in the key (the one with the 2 buttons)
Remove the small screw and you can split the casing with finger nails. The battery just slides in. I don't recall having to reprogram anything after changing it.

I've just done one of the two plips for SWMBO's 1995 M plated 306 as it happens.
1) remove the small screw
2) split the casing open (I used a jeweller's screwdriver twisted in the gap between the two halves of the "hanging" ring)
3) with the same screwdriver, carefully pushed the first battery out of the plastic casing (too tight to do with fingers)
4) tipped the plip upside down so the second battery fell against the roof of the casing
5) pushed battery out with the screwdriver
6) tipped back up the other way
7) inserted two new CR2025 batteries
8) reassembled
We have owned this daily driver for just over three years and have now placed the batteries in both plips once.

Reading ChrisMo's post implies that there is more than one type of 306 plip so I have taken a photo of SWMBO's split open and posted it here: groups.msn.com/honestjohn/problems.msnw?action=Sho...0
The plip has two buttons, one large one for lock/unlock and a smaller one adjacent to the hanging ring arm/disarm of the alarm.

Definitely a single CR1620 in ours. It's a 1999 V, one button locks/alarms then second push to deadlock, other button unlocks.

Cheers guys. The 'plip' that I have only has one button; car is a P reg (97?). Anyway, looks like removing the screw and splitting the case is required to get to the battery. The picture looks like the same style of key......I'll let you know how I get on.
