Hello, Could somebody please advise me on a couple of problems I have with my omega. Firstly i have a battery drain, what happens is if i leave the car for a couple of days i need to jump it using a jump pack. I have checked that their is no lights staying on. I have already put in a new battery from vauxhall also a new alternator. Second issue is when i start the engine the revs jump up and down until the engine is warm and then it is fine.
any advise on these two problems would be a help..
Thanks Paul..

If you don't get the answers here, I would reccommend the excellent Omega group forum on Yahoo. There are some very helpful experts there and I am sure I have seen possible answers to your problems - certainly the battery drain.
Good luck

Remove the interior light bulb as I have been here before and eventual found the interior light auto fade triggers as the car cools down and the light comes on in the night. Give it a try it may be the problem. Regards Peter

Disconnect the plus side of battery (providing you know the battery code) put a volt meter in line set on amps and see if it is drawing any current with everything switched off.The clock will take a couple of milliamps anything above that then there is something working, favourites are boot light ,underbonnet light ,interior light, mobilephone handsfree not wired through the ignition switch or a duff battery of course.

Assumming the car has an alarm this procedure will be required. Undo the clamp on the battery but leave connected. Override any bonnet alarm switch, close all doors, let the alarm set itself and wait 10 minutes. Now get an assistant to hold the meter probes on the terminal and the lug you are about to gengle lift off, now carefully lift the lug up and read the current the armed and static system is taking. Some ultrasonic and doppler RF alarms take up to 40 milliamps. The reason for the 10 min wait is many cars leave part of the ECU powered for a few minutes before going off. This delay control relay may of course be your problem. Regards Peter

It should be noted that if the car battery is diconnected, the alarm has a battery back up. To disable the alarm before disconnecting the battery, first you have to turn the ignition on, then off again and disconnect the car battery within 15 seconds of doing so. Failure to do this will result in the alarm sounding.

Check with Vauxhall what the "everything off" current should be, you could get a surprise.
e.g. everything off current on a Passat SE is 1.5-2 Amps, no-one on this forum believes me, and the AA man didn't believe the service centre when they told him either but his ammeter was showing 1.6A with EVERYTHING off!

This PAssat current persists I think for 8 minutes then the ECU completely shuts down. " amps with flatten a battery in 2days. a 5 series BMW N plate was taking 3.5 amps until the controller under the rear shuts down then it was 33/34 milli ands alarm armed and rechargeable torch in the glove box in its holder.
