Hi,
I have recently bought a BMW 1 series 1.6 Sport. The fuel consumption is rubbish about 28.8 mpg. Are there any tips to stretch this out.
Thanks in advance

Several questions: -
1. Is the car brand new and if not how old is it and how many miles has it done.
2. What is your typical daily drive - urban, suburban, rural, how long, how much traffic.
3. Do you drive a) sedately, b) with the traffic or c) as fast as possible?
Then we can advise you!

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Hiya, I've got the 120d and it too was not good to start with, but since 7k miles it has got much better.
If it is on the runflats make sure that they are inflated properly - I was surprised how high the pressures were.

That is a small high-revving engine in a heavy car, not dissimilar to my Alfa (1.6). In variable conditions/traffic I can easily get as low as 32mpg, but a steady drive will get that up to 40 sometimes.
The real killer for mpg at 'normal' speeds is the frequency of throttle inputs. A steady 75 is much better than lots of fast slow between 30 and 50.
