From the BBC news website -
"At the Vopek terminal in nearby Thurrock, one protester who drove his car on to the wrong side of the road to try to block a tanker was moved by police. An ambulance was called after he complained that he had hurt his back.
Two demonstrators who turned up at Shell's refinery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, were frightened off by the size of the media pack, according to a police source."
You couldn't make it up!
|
Tomorrows news story:
Although no protestors turned up at any of the UK's refinery's, tankers were still unable to get in or out due to the ridiculous media circus surrounding each one.
Side story:
All remaining oil reserves used up by idiot reporters travelling the whole country to make up a story when they could have got it just as accurate from the office.

It is pretty funny - all this self fulfilling prophecy makarky.
However, it's £1.40 a litre in Chelsea. Madness.

It's still 89.9p a litre at Tesco in Watford or at least it was yesterday when I drove past, haven't checked the price today - not even sure whether they have any fuel left .....

That reminds me of when I first learnt to drive, and passed a garage which had a ridiculously low price up, about 20p per litre less than usual. I screeched to a halt before realising that there weren't actually any pumps there anymore. Just the big sign with it's year old price. Gutted.

BP are selling unleaded at 90p/litre in Poole, Dorset.

That was also the price at Watford Tesco when my train passed at 17:20.

Considering most garages in my area had run out of fuel yesterday, today seemed normal hardly a car in any garage. But local tesco price for diesel 97.9 a litre highest price ever so far

"... hardly a car in any garage.... "

Happy to let this new post run, so long as it stays on topic, on motoring and away from politics etc. Otherwise it will go the same way as the last one.

Seems fuel prices at the pump will be back by this time next week to those just before the Katrina disaster in New Orleans, according to the Fuel Retailers' official body.

Drove from sunny Stoke on Trent to darkest Lincolnshire today:-) all 90 miles.
Queues at filling stations and £15/£20 limits on way out.
On way back, no queues , no limits.
All over? Or is it because I left Lincolnshire in the light (and the news has not reached there:-) and it was dark in Stoke when I arrived home - so could not see the empty stations had signs saying "no fuel"?
Since I have not listened to or watched any news, has the UK still 78 days supply left? Or will I wake up tomorrow to see 15 mile queues ast my local station?
Can I stand the suspense?
Do I care?:-)

Not much diesel left in my tank but did I bother to go and fill up?
Nooooo!
The Panic will be over in a couple of days!
Cheers, Sofa Spud

It will be just as soon as Joe Public has transferred the entire contents of every filling station to his tank - at that point sanity should return.

At last I have finally found the benefit of working for a large retailer! Whilst everyone was queuing up at my PFS, I was laughing loudly at how stupid they all were!
And then when the diesel tank goes down to under 1000 litres it gets switched off.
And then when I go over to close the station up, I can fill up with diesel if need be!
Has made all the years of hell working for them all seem to be worth it - Not!

Hello.
I agree too Bobbyg
Our son works for a supermarket chain and He too can fill up at his leisure even when the signs are out saying empty.

So what have we learnt?
- panic buying is unnecessary and counter-productive (at no time did the protesters say they would blockade refineries)
- don't believe what you read in the Daily Mail
- get a car with a good long range. My A4 2.5, with a 70-litre tank, does about 650 miles to the tankful: presumably the 1.9 and 2.0 TDis do well over 700.
I seem to remember Stuart Bladon (another writer, see the LJKS thread, who wrote good sense and good English - I think he's retired now) drove from Land's End to John O'Groats on a single tankful in a diesel Audi. He may even have gone on to 1,000 miles.
|
Stuart Bladon was fined for driving too slowly
Clarkson did london/edinburgh/london on one tankful in an audi a6
The goona as driven by RF does 750 miles between fillups
