Drove a new style Passat today with the boot loaded up with files, papers A4 sized dockets etc etc and of course after some death defying driving on 2 wheels around some corners the files and papers went everywhere.
So trying to retrieve these became quite back brakingly difficult.. reason? the enourmous deep boot (lengthways). Just could not reach them all without virtually crawling inside.
My point is.. is it really neccesary to have such a large trunk? why not more rear room instead. It's too much storage space for Mr average.

I use to have the same "problem" with a Jetta - but I don't think you will get many people complaining about too much boot space...:-)

My mother-in-law is like that. If you gave her a thousand pounds she?d complain that her wallet was too small.

Just no pleasing some people!!!!
I have the same "problem" with my Rover 800, but wouldn't have it any other way. Come holiday time, that huge boot is a real boon. With a family I couldn't run anything with a small boot (Jags for instance).
|
You can get a net to string across it - so you're not fishing for your shopping etc. Not nice when the back's all wet & mucky on a rainy day.
|
I have a similar problem in my Galant. The big flat boot is useless for carrying my weekly shopping. So I bought a couple of collapsable plastic crates which I simply pop-up for carrying my shopping and collapse again when I'm done, and when I need it I praise my boot for being so cavernous.
|
I?ve got a box in the boot for my jump leads and stuff but it?s got wheels so it? all over the place.
|
The boot in my 205 isn't massive but i find a shopping basket that has been acquired from a supermarket is great for holding all the junk i keep in the boot in one place.

Shopping?
Thats why I took a wife and provided her with a shopping tool. The clio.

Lakeland do a canvas folding doodad which holds 4 shopping bags together in an upright position. I used to have it my old croma which had a cavernous boot. One of those opened fully and a large inboot tidy still didn't fill more than a third of the available space. Same stuff fills the boot on the triumph completely!

Lakeland do a canvas folding doodad>>
Got something similar at Aldi about two years ago - tough, has handles and huge capacity when opened, yet folds down to little more than about A5 size.
Price? £1.99..:-) Wish I'd bought more now....:-(

The new passat has a hook built in in the boot to hold shopping bags upright. Doesn't help with files, folders etc though.

Saw the new Passat alongside the old Passat (previous model for the pedants) and it is a lot bigger. Had two previous model Passats and that boot for me was pretty deep. Got a sofa in a saloon once on a trip to a trip (cut up a bit though!)
Hijacking the thread slightly... don't like the new Passat (and Golf Plus) in lighter colours with those new LED rear lights. Maybe VW trying to get us to change our tastes in body colour. Darker colours look good.
|
Proof read that and missed the glaring mistake. Meant "trip to a tip".
|
I made an "egg box" structure in mine.
Two front to back and two side to side with halfing joints. Made from 12mm melamine faced chipboard.
Works a treat.

Buy a V70 - The grocery bag holder as is called folds up out of the boot floor to reveal a stepped tray and a series of hooks to take the plastic bag handles and stop them flopping over. Works a treat. This used to be standard fit but as part of Ford's seemingly continued subtle decontenting is now a cost option.
|
I should also have added; for £9.99 I purchased a grippy mat from Halfords that works a treat at stopping things sliding around in the boot. Anything from a paperback book to a suitcase will stay where it's put.

I bought a Passat estate instead of a saloon because of the access difficulty. It was too much of a stretch in the four door but much easier in the 5 door. The new Passat estate is more stylish so you could look on it as a large hatchback or maybe a lifestyle vehicle etc.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.

Long flat boots are a pain in the back. Years ago my father had an NSU Ro80 and it had a deep boot, so deep that you could stand suitcases upright in it. Made it very easy to use.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
Big boots give plenty of room if you ever want to put an LPG tank in. With petrol prices going up there are going to be a lot of people wanting to go on to gas.

Imagos,
Why did you buy it then ????
For a zero-cost solution, you could try getting a couple of cardboard boxes from your local supermarket to put your gear in. Or next model at a couple of quid, those plastic boxes you can buy.
|
He never bought it - he just drove it.
