Further to a thread in the past my 99 Mondeo 1.8 is still pinking on normal unleaded (fine on optimax)
I have replaced the plugs and HT leads, ran three doses of VAG fuel additive through the system and reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for half a day.
Incidentally, since disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU the pinking seems to be worse (I might be imagining it though.)
The pinking occurs mainly at 30mph in fourth gear when I floor the throttle.
Any ideas what to try next? Any help gratefully received.

Have the timing checked at the ford dealer, checking is a straight plugin computer job i would expect

I would think it normal for most cars to pink when you floor the accelerator in 4th.

I think the timing is non adjustable and no car should pink in my experience. But thanks for the replies.

Check what octane rating the ECU is set for. There is a little plug in resistor (grey) near the servo, check it is there and the correct one for 91 octane from your Ford dealer.

Thanks Andrew, but I am a little confused.
Should it be 95 ron for normal unleaded?
