I paid to get a valuation of my car to use during negotiations with an Audi dealer. The trade in price was £5800. I told him that's what I wanted. He went away doing the 'talk to my manager' thing and came back offering me £4800. He said the book he has contains the real prices and that Glass's online valuations aren't right!
Needless to say, I'm going to sell my car privately.

Most salesmen I've dealt with will show you the Glass's Guide figure if you have any doubts about the valuation of a PX.

When all said and done it is only a guide, whatever the dealer may say. Glass's guide wasn't written with the consumer in mind.
I've seen low price given for a p-x and top whack - above book when it is back on the forecourt - only happens once though ;-) I always make sure they know it's the cost to change that I am interested in, nothing else. They will either get a sale or they won't...eventually you will get the deal.
best of luck.

Is there any point in endlessly repeating your trite slogan ?

Best of luck?

Glass's Guide is exactly that - a guide. it makes no difference for regional variation, how busy the dealer is, if he actually wants your PX etc. Your car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
There are lots of variables to take into account when buying a car and too often customers get hung up on the valuation of the car and don't look at the cost to change which is what really matters.

Can those of you with access to the book tell us if it does agree with the online valuations?
|
not at the moment - my home copy is a couple of months out of date, however i can still make a more accuarate estimate from this than parkers gives.

Not sure if you referring to me or Adam, but it's still a somewhat trite observation on your part.
Presumably you are clever enough to create a superior signature for whichever one of us you are addressing?
If it is rejected, no doubt it will be a case of "Trite, trite, trite again"...:-)

I thought he was talking to you Stuart - I posted in reply to him.
If he was, I don't know why.
Lakelad - make it clearer who you're talking to. Something along the lines of,
StuartLi, is there any point in endlessly repeating your trite slogan.
That usually works. Then, the person you're talking to knows you're talking to them and can take no action whatsoever.

Could one of you answer this question please...

No doubt someone would be pleased to do so if the details of the actual Audi mentioned such as model, engine, age, mileage etc were posted...:-)
