Thought this might be interesting, for those of us who check our consumption on each fill-up,. thereby getting an accurate reading - what's the worst you've ever got from a full tank, and what's the best you've ever got from a full tank?
I know that those who trust their on-board-super-duper-computer will want to post too, so go for it, but let us know how you've got the info.
I'll start us off: Mine is the old fashioned method as mentioned above, brim tank, reset milo, use fuel, rebrim, compare fuel used to mileage completed.
Worst tank: 23mpg
Best tank: 33mpg
I'm not quite sure which of those is the most embarrassing :D
That best tank was done almost entirely at between 100 and 120 mph though (in Germany) so I think is quite impressive. And some people question the usefullness of 6th gear!
|
I just look at my fuel computer for my 'average' info.
Best 52mpg, Worst 46mpg.
Over the course of a tankful the mileage seems to even itself out (ie. the mix of economical and uneconomical driving) and I seem to fill up every 600miles no matter what.
Car is a chipped Volvo S60 D5 (2.4 5cyl 193bhp)
|
I wonder how accurate most fuel computers are? Mine usually shows 200 miles range left when the red light comes on.
Measured full tank to full tank and assuming that the odo is correct - 65 litres every 420 to 440 miles.
Best tank: 32mpg
Worst tank: 27 mpg
Average over 3000 miles: 29 mpg
A mix of 75% motorway and dual carriageway, 25% urban/suburban I should say.

Trip computer is up to 10% out on all functions depending on how it feels. Miles to go display goes out when low warning light comes on (usually at about 70 miles to go) Despite pushing the low fuel as far as I dare before pooping myself, I have never managed to squeeze more than 65 litres into the 70 litre tank.

I know that sometime in my life that's going to be the thing that switches me to diesel. I don't know when, I don't know where. But it will.

Espada - this is a bit OT, but yes,8-15% difference seems to be consitant. I've carried on using it. I'm also experimenting with 5% xylene as well. Maybe this should be in "the lost thread of acetone"
cheers.

And do you see the difference on SWMBO's car where she hasn't been told about it?
Currently in a 1.8 16v vectra, can get 44mpg out of it; generally get about 40/41; can get as little as 28.

The fabia computer has never showed lower than 45mpg over a journey, best I've seen was a trip back from Newcastle this weekend when I got 70.4mpg.
That was driving along looking at the instant mpg rating and adjusting my driving to keep it as high as possible though.
Overall average (last 3200 miles has been 52.4)

Brim to brim calculations, worked out on a trusty Casio:
Best: 55mpg
Worst: 41mpg (4 people and their luggage on a swift[ish] trip to Fife from Northumberland. Not the flattest route you'll agree and regular visits to 70 which is about 3950rpm)
Average 49-51mpg
Not bad for an ageing Polo with 106000 miles and 4 on-the-floor
The best figure we squeezed out of this car was by my sister on her summer hols. At a pretty much constant speed of 55-60, from Newcastle to Hampshire she got 60mpg. we couldn't believe it neither!

Worse ever was 10~11mpg on my Clio Williams that was on the track. Best was about 36 driving to the same track day.
Worst on a diesel was 39mpg though that was on the track though only 65hp Clio mind you. Adverage though is 55mpg which isn't to bad as I'm not easy on the car.

Mondeo 1.8 SCi
Best 33
Worst 26

The trip computer is always optimistic, quoting 34-37.
Pretty rubbish condsidering mostly motorway miles. Puzzled by the small matter that the fuel consumption has actually slightly improved since I changed work location and reduced motorway miles. It brings in to question the point of having a 6 speed box.
