In todays Autocar there is a roadtest on the 'Der Nue Passat'
Observations include some critisism of some interior fittings and trim quality believe it or not! A bit of costcutting evident. And what about that fiddley slot key card thingy?
|
Oh no, not another key card. I hate the things.

Is that a personal pet hate or one based on them going wrong?

I called in at my local dealership today during my lunch break. I have a 2002 Passat.
First impressions: -
1. It's big and a bit American looking.
2. Very Stylish and modern looking. Makes the Avensis for example look outdated, like my current Passat.
3. The plastics were better than I expected given some of the write ups. Similar in quality and substance to the current Golf.
Fit and finish looked flawless to me.
Just my thoughts.
I'd like one but to be honest it's a bit bigger than I would want my car to be.

I was reading a mag and saw a coupe version of it for release around 2007. Looked absolutely beautiful and had a look of the CLS about it.

A neighbour who works in a Renault dealership sees plenty of owners coming through the door with faulty cards. Faults are usually down to owner misuse and toddlers playing with them! Her advice is protect them like you would a gold bar and keep them in a protective case when in your pocket - replacements aren't cheap and dust, grit etc can be transferred into the slot which can cause further more expensive problems.
|
Great, I'm sure I want to be treating my car keys with kid gloves all the time. Not. :-)
What were Renault thinking introducing such a system that needs such care taken of it?

Mark,
2.0 16v.
Very very nice.
Test drive one.

Renault bring in the key card and keyless entry into large volume cars, as well as electronic handbrakes. Everyone asks why we need these gimmicks, they are pointless etc.
VW follow a few years later but press refer to it as great, very useful etc etc
[ducks away to avoid the crossfire]

Well i sat in one today for the first time although didn't drive it (probably wont for a few weeks), and the interior fit and finish gets the imagothumbs up.
The parking brake in Renaults is a fantastic feature certainly not a gimmick if you know how to use it properly. Not sure about keycards though.
IMO it's only a matter of time before all cars have electronics parking brakes and cardkeys.

A couple blasted past me on the Autobahn today, and they do look good, particularly in the RVM coming up behind you at 130mph. But IMHO the door handles are set a bit too low, spoils the side profile...
|
On the subject of door handles, I was following a car the other day and remember thinking how, from the rear, the door handles really jutted out from the body of the car. Think it was maybe the new Focus though not sure?

Until the electrics fail and the dash starts creaking and the dealer doesn't want to know. Sour grapes....who me!!!!!!!
>>
Thats a tad negative !
I had 2 Passats as company cars covering about 100K miles without the slightest of problems.

Well I can only quote my experience and that's exactly what happened.
