Can someone please advise me. I have seen a VW Passat Highline TDI (130BHP) for £12699 54 plate advertised in an non VW dealership. I have contacted them and they advised me that it was a British Spec car. On contacting my VW approved dealer to see if they could better the price, he advised that there was no way that he could better the price and at that price it must be an import and that servicing the car would be more expensive and if I where to use the warranty it might take wks/months to get fixed as it may have differant gear box for example and that when I traded it in I would get less for it. Is he talking rubbish to put it nicely or is there any truth in what he is saying. I do not want to spend £13000 on a car to find out I have bought a pup.

Everything apart from the lower trade in price is rubbish, and even so, considering an "import" would cost less than a UK sourced car in the first place you wouldn't actually lose any money when it came time to trade.
But why worry about the implications of it being an import when you don't even know that it is. Get the VIN number and contact VW main HQ (not the garage where they gave you all that drivel) and ask them if it is UK sourced or not. Even if it is, I wouldn't be swayed if the price and the car is right.

Suspect you may have run into yet another really helpful VW dealer ..... see other posts on this subject.

Ask yourself one very important question,
Why is this car cheap.
|
"Why is this car cheap."
If I had to guess, I would say its a supply/demand issue. Looking on Autotrader there are no less than 10 cars of the same spec on 04 and 54 plates for less than the asking price of the above. The price doesn't look so suspect now does it and I dare say it wouldn't be cheeky to seek a further discount.

Get the facts right, thought the price of original car in question was 12,799, but as its 12,699, amend the above post to read no less than *8* cars on Autotrader. Wouldn't want anyone to think I was pulling a fast one.

Question answered then, its not cheap.
Probably due to new Passat coming out, nicht var?
|
Der auto ist nicht cheap, ich nicht pay thirteen grand for an ein year old Passat von a non franchise dealer mit a neu ein coming along unless, perhaps, it ist a W8.

Hopefully that will work.
54 plate Passat Highline 130 from a franchise dealer, 9k miles, in silver, 50 notes under £13k, in Harrogate. And that's only if you want a Passat rather than something else.
Ask your franchise what they can get that one for... I've no idea if the indie's Passat is an import or not, but if it is, stay well away from it because it is anything but suspiciously cheap.

Cheers for this just about to contact my vw dealer and see what he says. I will let you know what happens.

David HM thanks very much for the link to this Passat. I printed it off and went into the dealer and guess what the Passats that that could not come down in price as it would cost them money all of a sudden could. First of all he tried to sell me an 04 plate which was 6 months older for the same money(£12950). But I told him sort me out a 54 plate for the same money or I walk (in a very nice manner of course). Deal done 54 plate 130 highline for £12950 10000 miles a good deal I feel.Comments welcome.
Also driving back into work I got thinking that people must go into these garages and pay the asking price (WHY).
Can some please answer this question. Why do some passat/golfs have the tdi logo at the back with either the letter i in red and some others have the di in red what is the differance
|
Red I = 100 BHP
Red DI = 130 BHP
Red TDI = 150 BHP
plus various other enhancements, different pistons intercoolers etc. also is older all silver TDI which is non-PD, ie older technology.
most common is red DI- v good flexible economical powerful engine.

I don't think the price is far off for a non import. Look at Auto Trader ads. Some on there at 13250 or 13450 with low miles. What is the mileage on your one?
|
Its a Novemder 54 plate with 17000 on it.

Don't just think if it's cheap or not for a Passat. Do you think it's value for money? I would suggest yes - it's an extremely well equipped and capable car for relatively little money and it looks alot better than the new model which looks like a Laguna or American car. What more do you want for the money?
